Arterial fibulation

How about changing your username?
Having found that I had a leaking mitral valve in 2005, it wasn't until 2024 that it needed surgical intervention. After the op, my heart went into atrial fibrillation (AF) for the next seven months. The effects were tiredness and lack of motivation to do anything. After a cardioversion last month I am feeling back to normal. Normal for me is an irregular beat, missing one every now and then. So, for me life with AF was not that bad, but I felt much better after treatment.
The first time you hear you have a heart problem it can be worrying. Try to get some perspective and see that many, many people have similar problems. It's very new and raw to us as patients, but our cardiologists see and treat these issues on a regular and routine basis. We are fortunate to have so many treatments available to us these days.
Best wishes for your cardiology appointment. Hope you get relief soon.
What you have is probably Atrial Fibrillation (AF) - it is very common and a large proportion of the UK population have it without being aware of it - many are treated for it, like you and live long and happy lives
You can find information about this condition on bothe the NHS and The British Heart Foundation websites

You might not know there is an AFib specific community on HU. I've put the link above .
I know it's a shock, mine came out of the blue. Just woke one night and my heart was beating ten to the dozen, a trip to A and E and all of a sudden I'm a heart patient. Now let's look at the positives. The medication they've given you will slow your heart and prevent blood clots forming. There are also a number of procedures they can try to fix it. An Ablation and a Cardioversion. It's early days, your cardiologist will work out what's best for you, but they will need to do some tests first. Like someone else said there's thousands of people living with this that don't even realise they have it, so much more at risk from a stroke.
Thank you I am going to have a cardiogram today so hopefully I have until 1 pm today to calm I can't stress on it I just wish I wasn't in this position as I put myself in this position through extreme stress
At least they're doing something, and fairly quickly. Echocardiogram is completely painless and let's them see what they're dealing with. It may not feel like it but tests are a good thing, the sooner they know exactly what the problem is the sooner they can get you on the right medication and offer treatment. Good luck.
Apparently my resting heartbeat is 83 as I went to the drs this morning so I'm hoping that went I go to the cardio clinic this afternoon I ll be fine
Hello I went to have the echogram this afternoon and the nurse doing it said that I wasn't in AF and there were no abnormally s found either. I hope I get the results soon after the cardiologist has seen it also I want to not be taking the beta blockers and blood thinners my partner says to. Ditch them but I don't want a stoke or anything if I stop taking it any advice would be grateful 🥲
