I have chronic Afib irregularly irregular.

I have Aortic stenosis moderate close to severe .

My question is ..Anyone else have this problem and have you had an operation whilst in this condition..I am getting very scared because I think that I may not be fit enough to have the tavi procedure. I am female age 76… I don’t feel very strong physically or mentally.

I think the surgeons will decide for you if it is safe to operate. I have been in a similar situation regarding a valve repair and the docs felt it was not safe to operate even for a Tavi. This was because if the op. had gone wrong during the surgery.... a heavy bleed... then they would have to resort to open heart surgery which can be at a greater risk.

I had a TAVI at 85 nearly 86 and all went well. The cardiologist would not do it earlier in case anything went wrong. In spite of my being stronger at that time.

All I can say based on my experience,, is it is not as scary as you imagine. Try to control your worries (very difficult, I know) but you will come through it and hopefully have a more complete and enjoyable life. Make sure you do the rehab and take the pills and discuss them with your nurse so they can be tweaked. Good lock and get well.

I have moderate to severe aortic stenosis and I haven't had my surgery yet, I do have regular check ups and tests which is good. I think depending on the symptoms and impact on your heart thats when they decide to operate x

Hello Antoinette48. Have you had this discussion about your fears with the cardio team? I have had STC almost similar to AF then AR which was moderate 5 years ago but now severe. I am waiting for aortic valve replacement. I have a pre-op assessment tomorrow. I am preparing loads of questions. Like you, I fear that I may be not be healthy enough for the surgery, but that is for them to decide. I am 63 and have been anxious and not sleeping well so I understand where you are coming from. I hope you get the support from your cardio consultant.

Thanks for your response ,but I have not got a team only my consultant whom I see six monthly then an echocardiograph one a year. I am fearful because I am getting weaker and walking is not a pleasure ,,my legs are like weights and the weakness is terrible.I am not on any lists or anything but my measurements are just going on to severe. Also I am 76.Good luck with your assessment…can you let me know how it goes. Please.
