that will entirely depend on local circumstances I believe. My husband waited for several weeks.

Hi Lemon31, it will depend on how busy your hospital is, but be reassured, had there been anything really urgent, you would have been told immediately. I saw my consultant as soon as I got dressed, it was to advise I was in the severe category for heart muscle failure ( EF 25% ). Hopefully you won't have too long to wait, and get good results. Take care.

Although does depend on hospital l heard nothing for over 4 weeks and then was casually informed by GP Receptionist that the results had been sent to them the next day. Because the result was normal no one had bothered to inform me.

I have been waiting 3 weeks for CT scan and now asking GP practice if they gave results.

Surprised neither results are not on NHS app or Patients Lnow Best.

I uploaded a copy of the echo cardio myself.

For my first echo it was two weeks, and the delays were at least in part caused by my GP surgery not prioritizing the processing of the results when they came in. The second was performed on a Saturday with results by Tuesday. The NHS isn't digital first, so lots of things like test results are emailed from place to place, and only go onto the NHS app or your records (apparently not the same thing) when staff have waded through the backlog.

The expectation is still that we will project manage our own care, and I hate to say this but pushy patients get prioritized. Be polite, be kind to staff trying to manage a system all too often designed by amateurs at a local level, but be prepared to ask they second question about where your results are, not just the first.

I had my result the next day. I'm guessing it was that quick because I was an inpatient. It should take a least a week to get results. Sometimes you have to chase them.

I think if the operator saw something they get results done quicker,I waited 3 months and had appt with cardiologist who said had hole in my heart which I've had from birth but didn't know

I have a mitral valve prolapse and have an Echocardiogram every 6 months. I usually get the results in 2 weeks. Think it depends on the hospital and the cardiologist. I live in Solihull near Birmingham. Hope your results come soon it’s horrible waiting.

I had a stress echo weeks ago. Told then it was ok and I was above average fitness! Still not had official report though.

As above, if there is anything suspicious, you would know about it by now. I think i had several different tests within about 4 weeks or an A+E visit, and was told within 1-7 days of each.

There is no definitive answer. I had one mid-Sept 24 and it was just before Christmas before I got a written result, and it would have been longer had I not pestered them for it because I needed it for travel insurance.

The annoying this is that they know while the scan is being done if there is anything wrong, so why not say so at the time, or see someone fully qualified, instead of having to be called back, or wait for a letter.

The same is true for ecg's.

I think the results are " in the system" within a day or two, it's finding somebody to tell you. I had my echo on a Friday and the following Monday my heart failure nurse who had contacted me on a different matter was able to tell me my EF had improved from 35 to 50%. I didn't get a letter for 6 weeks.

Hi .. I had one recently. I contacted the consultant's secretary after 2 weeks and soon after she sent me an email with the letter attached with the consultants findings. Letters from my local hospital can take ages .. a previous one from the same consultant took over 2 months and I didn't have the savy then to get things done. So if a consultant referred you contact his secretary. If your GP referred you then obviously ring the surgery.

I had an MRI 9 weeks ago and still no official communication despite me calling 5 weeks later and being told letter being typed up.I agree with comment here ... if something urgent most likely you'd have been contacted. I know mine is clear as cardio rehab had a little peak on hospital records after 6 weeks !😄

Good luck.

You might want to chase them up as the results will be there. I actually got mine as soon as the scan was complete, and it came from the nurse who was doing the scan by way of a heads up... I shouldn't really be telling you this, but I've done this so many times that I can tell everything looks perfect... and she was spot on, as I was an inpatient and the consultant told me the exact same thing the very next day.

Hi Lemon31, it varies a lot. When I was being monitored in community cardiology for my valve condition it could take weeks and the echo technician would not give any feedback at the time - they are not allowed to only the cardiologist . When I was upgraded to the valve clinic when my condition got worse the cardiologist was present and told me the results . If you have not heard it is likely to be good news but I would follow up. The key with dealing with the NHS is to find the right person to contact - usually the cardiologist’s PA but the NHS dows not always make it easy and is often reluctant to give out contact numbers My results usually eventually come through on the NHS app but often the results are embargoed for several weeks so I am notified that the results will be available on XYZ date but cannot see them which is really frustrating. I also then get a letter often weeks later. Best wishes Lexi71

I had an echo a month ago and the NHS cardiologist gave me a verbal Idea about the key findings (EF valves state of the ventricles) etc He sent the report to the GP and me a few days later

I think this is luck because the hospital outsourced some of these sorts of procedures. I had a holter done by my local hospital and it took 2 months to get the report

If the need is urgent it can be done very quickly but otherwise it's probably a month typically
