While waiting for (God knows how long) an aortic valve replacement, I have been in and out of hospital for endless blood tests and scans which shows no change apart from a drop in blood pressure. That means I am not eligible to be bumped up in the queue because my symptoms are not life-threatening. I would like to know if anyone is in the same boat as me. I get occasional dull and distant chest pains, heart palpitations and light-headedness (I could be mistaken for someone who has had one too many!). I am on amlodipine and rosuvastatins. Bisoprolol was discontinued a few days ago. Could the light-headedness be a result of Bisoprolol withdrawal or the AR effects? Cardiologist are still guinea-pigging me by saying if I get worse, I go back to A & E. Thank you for reading my long post.

Aortic regurgitation

I lived with my leaky valves for decades and never had any symptoms. The last 5 years or so my mitral valve had reached severe regurgitation and my aortic valve moderate. I finally started to show left ventricular hypertrophy and was booked in for surgery within a few months (though I’m on the private system in Ireland).
The light-headedness sounds more like postural hypotension (which I have as well). My surgeon says it has more to do with age and autonomous nervous system than the heart. My body is just a little slow shrinking all my blood vessels in preparation for standing up, so my BP tanks for 60 seconds or so. When getting out of bed I have to sit on the side for a good minute or two before standing up.
They should have told us to appreciate our health more when we were younger….
