Hi all, I’m 60 yrs old have suffered pericarditis since 2006 but during a CT angiogram performed three weeks ago the cardiologist found a 10x14mm (moderate sized) hole in my heart. I’ve always had a heart murmur from birth which they say is clearly linked to the hole.
Has anyone on here ever been diagnosed with this and was it repaired?
thank you in advance for any replies.

Yes. I was found to have a hole in the heart at 70.Then a TIA followed so Cardio surgeons quickly closed it. One day in hospital and out the same day.Up and about the next day.Nobody picked it up and life had been very full.AFstruck and this alerted cardio. to the hole. They enter through the groin and slip up a device that they guide through the hole to close it on both sides.A few hours rest and then it is finished.I am now 86 and so far in pretty good shape and very active.
Thank you so much for your reply. I’m hoping they will offer to patch it as Ive currently got symptoms from it such as breathlessness and terrible fatigue. Until last year I’d had no symptoms .
By the way. Closure is not always offered but I saw it as a positive step . A hole in the heart,I was told, can prompt strokes so why refuse the procedure which is simple and very low risk?
I was diagnosed with hole in heart last year,I'm 67,it was a shock as never had a murmur which makes mine a large hole, they aren't going to fix as am ok
First, rightly or wrongly, my cardiologist said he wouldn't put metal in his heart and he wasn't going to put it in mine unless I wanted to take part in scuba diving. Re symptoms - For years, before takotsubo episodes appeared in my life I used to get SOB and chest pains when walking up any inclines which has been put down to microvascular dysfunction. I also used to get symptoms like a TIA but never saw a doctor about them because they would disappear after a few hours. I don't get the TIA symptoms since I've been on my heart meds. Any cardiologist I've seen in the last couple of years hasn't mentioned it.
Thank you for your reply. I’ve only just started having symptoms though I’ve had a heart murmur and clearly the hole since birth. As I’ve no other coronary disease and calcium score of nil I’m hoping they will patch mine. Time will tell I guess.
