temporary cardiomyopathy? Is this really a thing?

my husband has moved from end of life care (ie: we were called to say our goodbyes) ….then palliative care at home with plans to not readmit him…..and a DNR in place….Now he has no Edema at all, no breathing issues, his heart rate normal….he has had no medication other than diuretics.

he has a previous brain injury and has cognitive impairment….

Prior to November he had no symptoms and then we noticed water retention in his legs and occasional breathlessness….then his BNP blood test showed over 6000, an urgent heart echo showed 10-15% EF ..,,he was so poorly very quickly…..now (other than recovering from being in bed for so long) he has no symptoms at all…..

anyone experience this?? I should add that he has extreme anxiety and stress daily (due to cognitive impairment) he can become so distressed over someone being five minutes late that he can vomit……. So I’m wondering if he has something called stress related cardiomyopathy…., has all of the symptoms but is reversible….., before I go asking questions of the cardiologist I just wondered if anybody else has ever come across this??!! I found that song called it broken Heart syndrome and I have attached some thing related to it

I have no real answer for you. Maybe ask the bhf nurses or your surgery. The anxiety is probably because of his previous brain injury, but you need to speak to his medical team.

Is he eating now, as previously you said he was living on yoghurt and fortisip?

Take care of yourself so you don't become ill.🙏

Hi, the anxiety is definitely due to his brain injury….and yes I will ask his cardio nurse…..his eating hasn’t improved really but I can see it’s psychological…..

Thanks,
