Hello :-)

Sorry you have gone and had a slip but that is going to make you feel bad today and hung over

I thought you had gone back to your meetings ?

Alcohol is well known for making us depressed

You are afraid of having another heart attack yet drinking to much will in some cases contribute to that happening before you pick up that drink you have to try and remember this

The way my anxiety is and how I feel I could drink so easily I really could and at times I get tempted but I know the answers will not be found in the bottom of a bottle

You do need help and you must have some numbers from your meetings I would either get to a meeting or phone someone up and start talking

I hope you get the support you need :-) x

Yep; pick yourself up; dust yourself off; and get back to working on it. You can do this. 🤗

Previously you have said you are not happy with your weight.

If that is still so perhaps you could give yourself a focal point by setting a target for weight loss which would likely have a positive effect on your mental and physical health.

I am going to start my lent diet 2 weeks in advance as I would really like to lose a stone as i "feel" heavy and bloated.

What is that maybe I could do it 🤔

I call it the "Cent" diet. "Cut down or cut out" for Lent

For Lent, which this year starts Shrove Tuesday 4 March and ends after Good Friday on 19th ApriI, cut out anything beginning with "C" which coincidentally includes many of the things that are bad for us or have lots of calories!

Crisps, Chips, Cookies, Cake, Chocolate, Cheese, Croissant, Cheese straws, Curry, Carry out meals (takeaways) Coffee. Also cut out last mouthfuls of a meal and cut meals out in restaurants.

Not being a masochist I allow things such as Chocolate and cake at weekends and at weekends call cookies "biscuits" so they don't count . I would also cut down on cheese and not cut it out.

Its around 6 weeks so would expect to lose 12/15 pounds whilst still leaving lots of things I can eat and allowing myself those treats such as Chocolate at weekends.

I like the sound of that diet, might try it myself.

The good thing about it is that it still leaves plenty of other foods to eat and it has a definite start and finish date.

Ditto as Anothernewbie, I'll be checking my kitchen cupboards for anything beginning with ' C 'A great tip. Thank you.

What made you “have quite a lot to drink”?

Have a reflect on the cues that lead up to it, is there a point where you can realise where you’re heading and aware of the consequences?

I love a good social drink and I know how it really affects my sleep , recovery and how crap it makes me feel the next day. So I only have big drinks very rarely and with people that I’m happy to be with and enjoy their company and laughter. Otherwise, my goals are focused on fitness and health these days. No room or time for booze.

Hi,

You had a glitch. All of us, being human, have them! Some with drink, some food, some fag's..... the list is endless.

That said, The good thing about being human is our ability to notice that we have "cocked our plans up" and learn from the glitch even though many of us repeat our same glitches over and over again.

Today you are feeling crap - learn from it, get back up into the saddle, surround yourself with others who can support you, understand you and most importantly not judge you in a negative way.

You can do this so don't give up on your ultimate aim.

Good luck

Me too, I've been much better controlling my alcohol intake since my health scare, I've started to limit it to twice a week. I hadn't touched a drop since last Sunday but last night (Saturday) so 6 days booze free I had a good 3/4 bottle of white wine (which i enjoyed over about 3 hours) BUT woke up very early this morning (Sunday) anxious, sweaty and feeling like total crap,so a plan B is needed which I guess I'll start to have a look at the 0% products out there,in fact I did have a bottle of 0% Bira Moretti the other week and found it surprisingly tasty and refreshing (for some reason I expected it to taste like dishwater but it didn't at all) so maybe try that, not sure how good the 0% wine is though as I haven't tried that,0% Guiness is supposed to be good too. Good luck

I really don't know why I had a drink i was 6 years sober it's just maybe once a week or fortnight i have a drink but this time didn't slow down yeah I feel shity anxious like death really but my best bet for me not to drink altogether is get back on the compensate for a while

It will take enormous strength and resolve to do this alone and a support group may be just what you need. My mom was an alcoholic (after the death of her sister) for about 25 years. Encouraged by a friend she started going to a philosophy class and found a peace of mind in the teachings there; she's been sober since 2003 and I'm very proud of her and she's just turned 80 and in amazing health and still working! So easy for things to control us,at the moment my health anxiety is consuming me, it's a battle,I have to find some strategy or other to defeat it and I'm determined to but it will take time-Good luck💪

Hi Richie, If you manage to find a decent low or 0% red wine, please let me know! I tried a M&S Shiraz (red) last week, it was awful and ended up down the sink! I’m not really a beer drinker, prefer wine (or gin!) but have found the 0% Guinness very drinkable! I have been trying to cut down my favourite red (Yellow Tail) to about one bottle a week 😏

Richie34 profile image
Richie34 in reply toRainyday2024

Hi Rainyday. I'm not even going to start to look for a decent 0% red wine,I simply don't think they exist (yet?) the alcohol is all mixed with the tannins and the alchemy of the fermentation process, without the alcohol that process just doesn't happen, oddly they seemed to be cracking the code with beers and lagers though 🤔 much lower overall alcohol strength to start with maybe? I'm the same with cutting down to a bottle a week now (around 9-11 units) so well within safe limits, ideally split over either a Friday/Sat or Sat/Sun. However as mentioned I blew it last night with 3/4 bottle in one albeit 3 hour sitting, must be the new meds I'm taking because that wouldn't have been a issue 3 months ago.

Rainyday2024 in reply toRichie34

Hi again! Well 3/4 of a bottle doesn’t sound that bad to me, unless you mean 3 or 4 bottles! I shall be having at least half a bottle of Yellow Tail very soon, when my partner arrives! He has been diagnosed with “liver trouble” and probably shouldn’t be drinking, or at least keeping it to 10 units/week. Trouble is, we both love red wine, so it’s hard to resist opening another bottle. I suppose the answer is to not buy so much or keep any in the house - oh dear! How do the French go on? I’m sure they drink every day! I think the low alcohol stuff is a waste of money - and best avoided! Ribena would taste better! Cheers! 🍷

Ha ha, no definitely only Three quarters of ONE bottle, I did do a fair bit of exercise (possibly too much) yesterday and as I said hadn't drunk a drop since last Sunday which was only one small glass so had properly detoxed. I reckon it's mixing it with the new meds that's the new factor. Indeed I'm only recently starting to reintroduce alcohol after not having had a drop since xmas eve till last week. Before xmas it was a bit more shall we say habitual.I didn't want to give it up totally as it's one of life's little pleasures as one gets older so decided to reintroduce it but only as a weekend think (as opposed to a glass or two with most weekday evening meals which can creep on you I found)

We need some pleasures, sadly most seem to be bad for us! 😖

We're all human & will slip up one way or another at some point. That was yesterday & that's gone now. Try to focus on right now & what you can do to help yourself going forward. You've come such a long way without alcohol so you know you can do it. X
