heart disease issues and Covid

is there a link? Spoken to some people who like me were fine, got Covid, and heart issues followed.

my cardiologist dismissed it, just seems a bit of a coincidence.

In the past two years I've outlined my symptoms relating to fatigue nine or ten times to various medicos but never once have I've been asked if I've had Covid (I haven't). I suppose that it's been assumed that I would have mentioned it, but I've been asked all sorts of other questions about my medical history.

"Don't mention the war..." I'm surprised this thread has survived for so long, tbh.

Covid posts are no longer automatically withdrawn, but they are still monitored

Wow, I haven't met anyone that hasn't had Covid!

I haven't had covid.

I have looked after several members of my family when they had covid.

I have had all my vaccinations for covid and flu.

I caught covid in 2023 and although it wasn’t overly bad, I struggled to exercise afterwards. About a month after having covid I started having extremely high heart rates which I’ve had ever since. I definitely think there is a link as I never had anything like that before. When speaking to various doctors about it, many have said there has been a huge increase of patients they’ve seen that were just like me, otherwise healthy but with very fast heart rates that couldn’t be explained.

Of course, or covid meds more like. 5 procedures later & I'm not finished yet. Pneumonia following covid meds & out of rhythm. I don't expect this post to be on here long but I'm convinced. Check out lifestylemedicinedoctor on Instagram, cardiologist with information.

Definitely agree with your first sentence. 👍

Definitely! I had a heart attack 2 weeks after contracting Covid for the second time. Heart rate massively increased after walking just a few steps. This lasted for months. Heart rate still persistently high as is BP after 18 months. Tests have shown my LAD is 50% blocked so below the action for a stent. Doctors say it’s most likely I have Small Vessel Disease of the heart, which is apparently common post Covid. And just to cap it off, I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis, another autoimmune condition. I had 2 close friends who died from Covid, so I suppose I’m lucky!

Did you have any of the covid injections 💉 ??

Oldgimmer66 profile image

3, but skipped last one. Why do you ask?

Microvascular and vasospastic angina does seem to occur in some people after viral infections, including covid.

The inner lining of the blood vessels, endothelium is damaged and can lead to microvascular dysfunction or coronary vasospasms.

I had myocarditis then found to have vasospastic angina over 10 years ago.

Oldgimmer66 profile image
Oldgimmer66 in reply toMilkfairy

As well as heart pain (angina) I also feel absolutely dreadful most of the time. Need early nights. Do you have that?

Milkfairy profile image
MilkfairyHeart Star in reply toOldgimmer66

I am sorry you are feeling so unwell. My vasospastic angina is caused by transient constrictions of my coronary arteries, reducing the blood supply to my heart.

I experience most of my chest at rest, especially during the night.

I do get very tired as a result. It feels as though someone has stuffed my head with cotton wool.

I will ache all over and feel very cold.

I though haven't had covid as far as a know.

Sounds awful. Do you find the GTN spray helps?

Milkfairy profile image
MilkfairyHeart Star in reply toOldgimmer66

I am on lots of different medications to try and help prevent my coronary vasospasms.

I don't use GTN spray as it works briefly but then I get worse rebound coronary vasospasms.

I have Bicuspid which was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago (which i find quite scary and depressing at times but that’s another story!)

I had COVID twice quite bad and have had palpitations ever since some, it was after tests on my heart for the palpitations that my Bicuspid was found!

I still get palpitations now and as I’ve said never had any problems before covid, I too am convinced it’s linked to covid.

Covid, or the injections?

Oldgimmer66 profile image

I had no heart issues until 2 weeks after being tested positive for Covid I now have atrial fibrillation. No other heart issues or blood pressure problems prior or now and my CAD score is 1 as I’m female. I do think Covid caused this for me.

seabluesparkle profile image

my cardiologist said they know Covid can damage the heart. I’ve had Covid 7 times and am struggling with high heart rate. Tests have shown that my heart is borderline global strain and I have an extremely high ejection fraction at 76%. My heart aches all the time and my blood oxygen levels fluctuate and they never used to before Covid.

Oldgimmer66 profile image
Oldgimmer66 in reply toseabluesparkle

Ditto. I also have a feeling which I can only describe as yuk. It’s like a really bad hangover.

seabluesparkle profile image
seabluesparkle in reply toOldgimmer66

I saw in your profile you have angina. Mine feels like angina but all the time! How did you get your diagnosis?

Oldgimmer66 profile image
Oldgimmer66 in reply toseabluesparkle

I had an echocardiograms, a heart stress test and an angioplasty (3 hospital visits). I couldn’t believe that they wouldn’t insert a stent whilst they were poking around in there…

The angina diagnosis really came from the fact that I have constant pain, like yourself. It comes on as soon as I wake and only goes away about an hour after I go to bed. I like angina, it doesn’t get worse with exercise (if you can call what little I’m able to do exercise!) What about you?

seabluesparkle profile image
seabluesparkle in reply toOldgimmer66

Oh interesting. I’ve barely been able to do much for the last few months, but I have tried doing more housework and walking recently and my chest pain definitely deepens and then stays like that for ages. Do you get short of breath with it?

Oldgimmer66 profile image
Oldgimmer66 in reply toseabluesparkle

Oh yes. Just climbed the stairs and I’m exhausted. It’s overwhelming.

seabluesparkle profile image
seabluesparkle in reply toOldgimmer66

It gives me a little bit of hope that maybe I have angina rather than high output heart failure.

Yes I had Covid last year and developed Arrythmia immediately afterwards (ventricular ectopics including lots of episodes of bigemini occuring throughout day and night) plus spikes of increased heart rate (170bpm and more). Cardiologist mentioned that they are seeing increasing numbers of patients with these kinds of issues after contracting Covid.

in reply toOSIA

My cardiologist thinks my periodic worsening symptoms are caused by viral infections and hasn’t ruled out Covid vaccine as a contributor. A complex decision for me in the future.

Had Covid 5 weeks before heart issue. 💯 fit prior. Still unestablished reason for heart 'insult '.If you look on BHF research areas, links are being investigated between Covid and Heart issues but no firm evidence as yet.

Oldgimmer66 profile image
Oldgimmer66 in reply toCaballocubano

My cardio said the same thing. They DONT understand it. Feel as though we are being written off though.

Hmm I get that Impression. I was diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation in December. Whether it can cause that I don’t know.

StayStrongOver60 profile image

I developed severe heart failure after Covid. Turns out I had inherited dilated cardiomyopathy. No symptoms before Covid. Must be a link.

Oldgimmer66 profile image
Oldgimmer66 in reply toStayStrongOver60

Are doctors reporting this and are studies being carried out I wonder, or are we just being listed as unfortunate Covid casualties?

RailRover profile image

Human nature to assume a causal link, and it is true that Covid can damage any organ in the body. However, I had my heart attack in December 2019. If it had been 6 months later I would have been blaming Covid for sure. Actually, I injured my knee pretty badly exactly a month before the HA. I am convinced that my damaged knee caused some sort of mechanism that in turn formed a blood clot that travelled to my heart. You see the similar logic?

Oldgimmer66 profile image
Oldgimmer66 in reply toRailRover

I think it’s more than that

did you get the covid vaccination ? I refuse it as many people have suffered ill effects permantely.

I had covid once. I am sorry for your suffering. May God speed

Definitely the case for me. Had no health issues up until Jan 2021 when I caught Covid. From then on suffered from ectopic heartbeats then had heart attack in Sept 2024. Thankfully I’ve made a good recovery and am feeling fine.

My wife developed viral myocarditis from Covid and ended up with atrial fibrillation and left sided heart failure. The link is not uncommon nor unknown. Not all consultants are as up to date as others.

I think I’ll seek out a new Cardio. The guy in nearby York who posts on YouTube gets good reviews.
