Hot holidays?

I am 2 years post nstemi and 1 LAD stent and feeling absolutely fine. Have played it safe with holidays since but planning a trip to Greece and Turkey in June. Likely 28- 30 degrees I think. How have you all done with hot holidays? Is this a sensible thing for me to be doing?

I’ve been on very hot holidays. Drink plenty of liquids, a little bit of shade helps. Listen to your body, if you feel tired or breathless just sit down and rest. And most importantly, have a fabulous time and don’t worry.

my husband had a cardiac arrest 3 years ago and we have been to Greece each year since and he has been fine.

Plenty of fluids is the answer and just take it easy.

Enjoy. Life is too short !! Xx

Hi Heartmum, My Hubby had an NSTEMI and this caused HF. We went away (to Spain) within 6 months. The only thing we did in advance was make a not of the nearest hospital and doctors to where we were staying. We were both a bit anxious about the "what if's". Other than that, everything was good. We did everything at his pace and he didn't push himself. We had a great holiday, hope you do too. sending best wishes.

I think that jet lag and a hot climate introduces a degree of extra cardiovascular stress. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol and large meals. Iam currently travelling around SE Asia, it is 32C. I have had one episode of afib 2 weeks ago.

hi Heartmum56

I think warm/sunny climate is far healthier than our current winter conditions - the current weather here is a strain on your heart! The vit d upgrade you’ll gain is excellent for cardiovascular health.

Just be careful to adjust your behaviour to the locals / unlike that crazy health guru who went out walking in midday Med weather on a Greek island last summer without his phone and too many clothes. ☠️That’s why locals sleep inside with air con in the heat of the day - do the same. Mad dogs and English etc etc

It’s getting health insurance that’s your main problem not a experiencing a lovely hot abd sunny climate.

Happy Holidays

I waited a year after a stent and valve replacement, and took myself off to Turkey last year, 30 degree plus most days. As said lots of water, I sat part of the day in the sun, part in the shade.

Go have fun, we only get one life, just remember to pack meds in hand luggage and get copies of you prescriptions to take with you. Hope you have a great holiday 😎😎
