At what point is there acceptance?

Like I’ve just tried so much yet still sit with so many symptoms for me.

- Chest pain (tightness,heaviness)

- Arm pain

- Fatigue

- SOB

I’m 23 guy ffs, been on anti depressants, anxiety meds, I’m scared to move now due to the symptoms that are provoked. 2 and a half years of this shit, would this testing help you cope or accept you’re ok.

- A few dozen ECGs

- chest X-rays

- blood tests

- 2 heart echos

- 1 week long holter monitor

- A stress test

- A CT conorary angiogram

This is in the last 2 years. They have found nothing but I feel I’ve got worse symptom wise. 4 cardiologists now say nothing is wrong, yet getting these angina symptoms. People have mentioned INOCA but doctors on the NHS have run every test now and won’t do more, exhausted, is there even a point.

Anyways thanks for those that read this.

Hello :-)

At what point is there acceptance varies from person to person

You have had every test done and they are all clear why would they lie to you if they felt seeing those results everything was fine they would not but what is the problem is your mind it is fixated on these thoughts and when we are so obsessed with something we can actually believe and feel we have the symptoms we fear so much

Regarding your heart I think they have done every test to make sure your heart is ok and you possibly have gone through all their resources they can offer you so I would start looking at more counselling , mental health support go through all their resources as that to me seems to be what you need the most

You are young and should be enjoying life but this fear is stealing that from you so I really hope you will put as much thought and work in getting as much support as you can to overcome your fears as you deserve it :-)

Start now and look up all the support there is out there and I wish you well it is not easy but you can do it :-) x

Fear is destroying me, I know you’re right. Like things just have to get better for me in the future as it’s been 2 years of this up and down. At a bad point, you have always helped when I’ve posted. Like I should trust the specialists otherwise whole else do I trust.

Hello :-)

As you may know I have suffered with anxiety all my life and I still struggle very much with the fear that feeds anxiety

The specialists have no reason at all or nothing to gain in fact the opposite in lying to you they know what they are doing they know what they need to look for and they have done that with you and said everything is fine you should trust them and try and get help with this fear you have because there is so much for you to enjoy :-)

You can do this with the right support :-) x

The tests have all shown you are ok,but you're over thinking that there is something so you need help to get you head round this so try the nurses and your gp for counselling to help

Sorry meant to say have you tried breathing exercises when you feel like this?? My councellor taught me this when I get overwhelmed,in through nose and out slowly through pursed lips

are you on meds for angina? Do you have a GTN spray, if so, does it relieve your angina?

Dshadzz07 profile image
Dshadzz07 in reply toCarriefarm

No because it’s not prescribed as I don’t have angina according to the tests

Looks like you need to look elsewhere! Maybe something in a diet plan, allergies, exercise etc?

Probably right I don’t think allergies. I just have weight and thyroid issues

I acknowledge living with pain is challenging. I live with refractory vasospastic angina. A type of angina that is difficult to diagnose and often overlooked by Cardiologists. I live with frequent episodes of chestpain.

However I know what causes my symptoms which helps me psychologically. I have a supportive Cardiologist whom I contact when I need admitting to hospital.

Pain is the ultimate gate crasher to our life party. The guest that doesn't leave and out stays their welcome.

Sadly about a third of adults live with chronic pain.

I attended a Pain Management Programme which helped me to emotionally respond to my pain differently.

I still have my pain, but by using breathing and relaxation techniques I am able to turn down the volume of the pain.

I used the same techniques when I was giving birth.

I also find using Mindfulness Meditation, yoga and Tai Chi helpful.

I can recommend this book

Living Well with Pain and Illness: The Mindful Way to Free Yourself from Suffering

by Vidyamala Burch

Others use taking up a hobby or learning a new skill can help.

I am going to learn to play the piano again this year.

Acceptance is an onging process.

I have to constantly tend to my acceptance.

I did a 12 week programme of cardiac rehab last year.

Perhaps ask your GP to refer you to a Pain Management Programme?

Good luck

Thank you, I’ve had a nice cardiologist that really cared about my weight and my symptoms who I contact still. I’m going to ask for a pain management programme.

Dshadzz07 I know someone whom has been in a similar position to you, exhibiting some similarity in symptoms. However they are more than twice your age and have been experiencing perceived health problems for nearly 15 years. They have seen several different types of specialist including cardio, had exhaustive tests and apparently there is no physical reason why they feel the way they do. But within the last few months a factor in their life which was causing them stress is being removed and they are slowly feeling 'better.' In your case you have had an array of tests and consultations and apparently have been given a clean bill of health, and although that does not preclude anything that could be wrong many causes for your perceived health problem will have been eliminated, which is a big positive to embrace. So I suggest you direct your energies to seeking help for your mental wellbeing as others have suggested, and look to counselling, rather than concentrating on looking for a physical reason for your concerns. And like the person I know, you may then start to turn the corner. You are 23 years old with a lifetime in front of you with both challenges and successes along the way, so perhaps find some worthwhile enjoyable distractions that will will help your mindset and will stand you in good stead for the years to come, such as a musical instrument, immerse yourself in those, and coupled with the mental health counselling advice you have sought, go out and start enjoying your life.

I was recently watching a video on social media and it was saying that fear and pain are linked. Because you fear the pain it gets worse and the pain makes you fearful.

I thought it was quite interesting as both are a response from your brain that it thinks something is wrong. You could have all the tests in the world but if you still have pain your brain still thinks there is something wrong.

My partner injured his back badly last year and he had to learn to live with the pain for 12 months until it eventually healed and gradually went away. I know it is a different issue but as he accepted it, the less of an impact it had on him.

I would echo what others say that it’s great that the tests haven’t found any serious issues and you have had more tests than many. Doctors generally would not risk anything if they had any doubt. I hope you can find a way forward so that it doesn’t take up so much of your life, 23 is still so young and you have so many opportunities to go out there and enjoy life. It might not ever go away but you can certainly learn to live with the feelings 😊

You say you are on medication for depression and anxiety, have you had a review of your meds recently? Is it possible that those particular meds are not working for you? Perhaps different meds might be needed to help with your heath anxiety.

I'm very sorry you are going through this at such a young age, anxiety is a nasty condition that can provoke physical symptoms I know first hand as I've suffered for 20 years. Like you I was in and out of hospital for tests and all sorts, I have had xrays, 24 48 and 7 day ecg monitors, all results where normal and I felt at a total loss. I felt they was saying I was making it up and always feel I'm wasting there time. At the age of 48 I did experience a 4 hour afib episode that scared the life out of me and I felt that I would finally be listened to but to be honest the cardiology guy couldn't be less interested if he tried lol. However I know now that my anxiety has been a massive influence on alot of my symptoms including palpatations, panic attacks and a whole host of unpleasant physical symptoms. Only you know how you feel but if you are obsessing with your heart and other symptoms I think you can only trust they are telling you the truth after all they have no reason not to, but i understand completely how difficult this is and wish you all the best in your struggle. Take it from me if your tests are ok you need to try to accept it and move on before like me it consumes decades of your life.

I have huge issues with no one listening to me. I was told I'd had a heart attack Sept 23. Fast forward 16 months and that has been debunked by my new Cardiologist. I never had one in the first place. During the full 16 months I've had Chest and Arm pain that doesn't go away only differs in severity on a daily basis. Some days it's mild others it's down right uncomfortable. The main issue I have is as soon as you see a GP they immediately think chest pain, go to A and E. They say nothing wrong so send you home. All symptoms from no matter which medical professional you see are immediately thought of as cardiac. It's high time these so called professionals took off the blinkers and thought right, what is causing this pain. It isn't cardiac as has been proved so what exactly is causing this.

They just don't seem to see beyond their text book response.

Chest Pain can have many causes including Gastric, muscular, lung, auto immune. I just want one to turn round and say "It's time we got to the bottom of this "

As has been said, if you have any sort of pain in the chest, doctors, not surprisingly, think cardiac. In reading through the symptoms, I was reminded of my wife's condition, Fybromyalgia, the symptoms of which can include considerable pain in many places in the body along with tiredness, sometimes extreme tiredness. Now, this is not an attempt at diagnosis, I am merely suggesting that the symptoms mentioned could be caused by something other than cardiac issues. You may get at least a diagnosis from an NHS pain clinic, although there may be a bit of a wait for the initial appointment.

Hope you get a diagnosis soon, good luck.

Paul
