Shoulder pain

I have a family history of heart disease. I'm a 78 year old woman. This last week I have some pain along the edge of my right shoulder blade. It feels like muscle ache I have had before. The only difference is that it is a bit on /off. I imagine muscle ache would be more ongoing rather that on/off every few seconds/minutes. I have no other heart attack symptoms, but have got myself a bit worried.

I can't comment on what is causing your pain but I would strongly recommend contacting your GP, at least, as soon as you possibly can. He or she can either reassure you or get you started on any necessary investigations. And if it should worsen either ring 111 or go to A&E, it's never a waste of time.

Thank you. My only hesitation about getting my shoulder blade ache investigated is my travel insurance. Once when I was anxious about palpitations, my Barclays insurance cancelled cover for all heart related issues for a year. I’m travelling in May.

I understand, but if you should have any issues while away there is a possibility that your insurance could be invalid.I hate to rain on your parade, but better safe than sorry.

Make an appointment to see your doctor. Phone up tomorrow. Take care

I suggest it seems like muscle ache but as we are not doctors I agree with the others, please visit your GP as soon as you like; very good luck and do let us know how you get on

I have exactly the same problem, it only comes in after exertion, then goes away

My GP just said keep an eye on it and go to A &E if it doesn’t go away or gets a lot worse.

Frankly A& E is the last place I’d want to go to right now with all that chaos so am keeping us low profile and hoping it’s tension related rather than angina. I have persistent AF and severe COPD. Really don’t want anything else!

You don’t need to declare it unless you get a specific diagnosis. And then if it is heart related you would have to inform them, otherwise insurance would be invalid. Better to get it checked out, better safe than sorry.

I would advise getting checked with GP just to be sure. Always best.
