My cardiologist wants to try me on it to see if it improves my laboured breathing ! Has anyone else been prescribed this medication which is normally prescribed for diabetes. I would appreciate any information on interactions and side effects.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Jillymo. My cardiologist started me on Dapagliflozin for my heart, but when I was tipping into type 2 diabetes. I immediately got excruciating back pain and had to stop the Dapa after a fortnight (although the pain lasted another 3or 4 months). When I next saw my cardiologist, he started me on Empagliflozin instead, and I’ve now been on it for about 3 years, with no obvious side effects.
Thats great news to hear the Empa is suiting you better, there is nothing worse than suffering with back pain. I was concerned about urinary infections which is mentioned as a side effect ! I suffer with various autoimmune conditions and have to take a immune suppressant which is all so mentioned in write ups not to take - Only time will tell if I can tolerate them.
Good luck with them! I must admit I haven't heard of anyone being offered them in connection with breathing difficulties, but if it works, and without side effeects, then great
I suffered heart failure in 2019, scans showed I have an enlarged Aorta so now under sureveillence. The cardiologist said the meds will help my heart function better and relieve my laboured breathing on exertion.
Yes. I have been prescribed Jardiance for the past 2 months and after 2 weeks I found that I could walk for longer without having to stop for breath. I believe one’s sugar levels can drop while taking it and I’m sure I have experienced that. I usually have then eaten something to bring up the levels and I feel better. If I fall to do this go into a downward weakening spiral.
