arthritis in my toe joint

have a look at the website Arthritis Action for more info.
Personally I take glucosamine with chrondoitin which I buy at the pharmacy. Others people here may give their thoughts and your pharmacist could help
Ibuprofen and paracetamol will help to start with
I obviously have no idea how bad your pain is but I and at least a couple of people I know just ignore arthritis pain in fingers and toes. I've used plenty of paracetamol and ibuprofen in the past for other things, to the extent I now have chronic gastritis, and feel it's not worth it for these relatively minor ones. Some medications are necessary, best to minimise the optional ones.
I also suffer from Arthritis in my big toe joint but daily Glucosamine Sulphate and also Turmeric keeps it at bay. Good luck
I find turmeric and perhaps read up on a anti- inflammatory diet. Generally less red meat can really help.
Hi, I can empathise a bit. Recently had a consultation with rheumatologist after my left big toe/ball of foot and ankle seeeked and was acutely painful. It started 10th November and is only this week starting to subside. It came in 3 weeks after I had total left hip replacement , I was checked at A&E for clots and given all clear but discharged in a lot of pain and no answers. I’ve had pain killers from my hip replacement , OxyCodone? Plus cocodamol , none of them take the pain away they just make you drowsy and feel more awful . I’ve been on crutches and immobile with the pain , far worse than recovering from my nstemi heart attack and quadruple bypass in July 2023 🤣.
I have follow up consultation in January , blood results look mostly normal except a high erythrocyte sedimentation rate , rheumatoid marker normal ..
Has your pain eased since posting ? I do hope so .
Have you had tests for gout? My brother has gout--started in his toe.
I thought maybe gout too. No amount of painkiller will cure that, I don’t think. I think it needs colchicine, or maybe allopurinol. My husband suffered from very painful gout, which colchicine sorted every time. It started in his big toe & the flare-ups gradually moved up the joints in his foot, then ankle. Maybe worth asking to try colchicine. Best wishes.
There are other effective treatments for acute bouts of gout and dietary change can prevent these becoming chronic.
My husband was prescribed Naproxen, this was only available on prescription, so not convenient for rapid administration if you can't get a GP appointment - it is also available as Boots Period Pain Relief, over the counter. He also dramatically reduced his beer intake and watches his intake of oily fish (other foods can trigger gout but he doesn't like them) and has not had an attack for years
I have arthritis in lower vertibrae, and a bit in other joints from time to time, I find painkillers a waste of time and so do not take them. The glucosamine and chondritin as mentioned I use as necessary, also Healthspan do a Magnesium and Glucosamine Gel which is fast acting and effective. Physio helped my back as does regular Pilates. You really do need to look to your diet - tomatoes and other 'deadly nightshade' plants (potatoes, peppers, auborgines, etc) are arthritis inducing, need to research other arthritis 'triggers'.
A word of caution if you plan to use a Non Streroidal Anti Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) such as Ibuprofen, please check to see if it interacts with any of your current medication.
NSAIDS reduce the effectiveness of some medications used to control blood pressure, so they should only be used for short periods
Also are you sure this is arthritis, not gout or something else?
Seriously, arthritis in your toe is hardly life threatening is it. try having a triple bypass and a mechanical aortic valve fitted and then you have a right to complain. go and see a doctor
I can sympathise with you. Whilst it may be arthritis, it could be gout, and if thats the case you would need different medication.
I suffer from gout myself and its the worst pain I've endured.
Get it checked by your GP.
