It's been a bit touch and go at times, but, today marks the 30th Anniversary of my first AVR surgery.
Of my surgeries, this is my favourite, job done and dusted and out of hospital on Boxing Day.
I opted for a Tissue Valve rather than a Mech, knowing I'd be having further surgery down the line. My plan was to have it done at least twice more, so I've not been disappointed.....
Two further Aortic Valve Replacements, a Mitral Valve replacement and subsequent repair, complete Heart Block, Permanent AF, Endocarditis, L to R Shunt, on the 3rd Pacemaker, Haemolytic Anaemia, Stage 4 CKD. I suppose it was inevitable that Heart Failure would come calling when it did three years ago, but, heyho thats life.
As Chumbawamba once wrote...
I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never gonna keep me down
I think it's time for a Rum Snatch or two tonight too my surgeon, for a job well done and nigh on 19 years of normality🥃
