PALPITATIONS

I have been taking Candesartan for high blood pressure for 4 months, and almost straightaway started to have heart palpitations. Has anyone else found this side effect please?

That drug has a number of possible side effects. There seems to be a pretty direct cause and effect so I would see your GP and ask to be put on one of the many alternatives

Thank you for your advice, I moved from Ramipril because of the cough and sore throat. GP tells me to persevere with candesartan until hospital referral comes through, in 37 weeks!

I don't know what other conditions you may have that makes candesartan the best bet. Perhaps the dose is too high or perhaps you need to take it at a different time of day or perhaps you do need to try something different.

Do you keep a health diary whereby the cause and effect might be properly documented? I am not your GP of course and can't give medical advice but if the palpitations are causing you distress it is reasonable to approach your GP again, with your health diary and your concerns and see what they say.

Just to say I get palpitations when I drink a pint and a half of beer. So it might be alcohol related. Simple cure, I don't drink.

thank you Andyman, candestan and alcohol don’t mix apparently so I gave it up a while ago
