Hi all, after a bit of advice on the compatibility of a smart watch with an ICD. I have read the BHF advice on this and my understanding is that it is the watches that use biometric (electrical) impulses that are a problem whilst the watches that use led lights are ok. Has anyone on here got first hand knowledge of compatible watches? The annoying thing is I only want a smart watch for the time, communication and various faces etc and am not really interested in having my vitals monitored over 120 different different sports 😂

Hey I have an ICD I've had a fitbit and now I have the Google smartwatch as I got it with my Google phone. I wear mine on my right wrist. Had no issues from using either smart watch. As long as it's 6 inches away from the device then it should be fine. I spoke to my cardiologist about it before getting one, he had no concerns xx
I have a smart watch and have no issues with my ICD. My cardiologist ok'd as long as I treat it like my phone and other related devices by keeping it no less than 6 inches away from my ICD. I use it more to monitor my heart rate, but I would have liked to use the ECG function on it, but it did come with a warning that the ECG function shouldn't be used with implantable devices, so I didn't risk it. I might instead treat myself to a Kardia mobile device.
Mine is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and you have to set up the calibrate the ECG function toset it up, but I stopped when saw the warning about it not being suitable for implantable devices. It's a shame, as it would be handy.
like other replies I was told keep it at least 6 inches away. Usually right arm. Just be careful when moving as you can often forget about the distance.
I use my Fitbit versa 3 mainly to track how active I have been. Not worried about absolute accuracy just day to day comparison. I am male 79, with a pacemaker. Replaced aortic valve ( by TAVI) and unrelated a metal hip. I try to walk 10000 steps a day and swim a km 3 times a week ( all at a leisurely pace ).
My condition was discovered early so never had a heart attack
Hi, I have a crtd implant and use the Samsung Galaxy S3 watch. It uses light pulses to check HR and appears to have been fairly accurate over the last 6 years of ownership. There are multiple faces available (I only use the free ones) and it is compatible with all Android phones. The only downside is that it requires charging every 3 days or so bit I always take it off at night anyway. It can alert you to messages (shown on the watch) and phone calls as well as the usual health apps. The model I have is the Galaxy S3 Frontier and they can be found relatively cheaply secondhand which is how I bought mine 6 years ago.
