Heart damage after blood clots

my friend had breast cancer, chemo caused her to have blood clots in stomach and lung. She filled up with fluid and recently nearly 2 stones worth of fluid was drained. She had been told she now has heart failure due to this and mainly the blood clots . They are gone but it’s what they leave behind that had caused her problem. Does anyone have any knowledge of these situations?

Hi Fynndog, back in 2016 I had some similar symptoms after surgery & chemo for a different cancer, uterine papillary serous cancer. I didn't have blood clots, but my body filled with fluid, which suddenly one day decided to escape when I went to the toilet! I was a bit panicked because I couldn't understand why my urine wouldn't stop flowing for what seemed about 10 minutes! I couldn't leave the toilet to get help! It eventually stopped & a visit to the hospital revealed it was amniotic fluid which had stored itself in my body. Some time later, I started suddenly passing out & falling to the floor. My heart was stopping for 15 seconds, & after 2 days in hospital I was flown to have a pacemaker inserted. I found out that the chemo had damaged my sinus node. It took some time to adjust to it, but for now, all is well. But it's been quite an experience I would never have been able to forsee! And of course, one day I will need a replacement pacemaker, so I must be prepared for that. I wish your friend well, it's not easy to come to terms with such situations!

Dear Hiker, thank you for replying, you must have been terrified loosing all that water . Chemo helps one thing and harms another. I do so hope things go well for you, you sound very calm about it all. Have to say seeing my friend go through this has been harrowing. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you both xxxxx
