Hi, I had a pacemaker fitted 10 days ago and have just taken the dressings of. I have a large lump around the incision, it's not swollen or painful . Is it something that will go naturally or that I will have to get use to?

Hi there, it might be the device under your skin. When you next go to the clinic show it to them. When I lay down I can feel mine and the bunch up leads, mine also moves around and I can see where it’s gone if I look closely😀. It depends where they fitted it and whether you are very thin. If it’s not hurting or swollen as you said, I take it you felt it, then you have no need to worry about it. It might also need time to settle it’s only been 10 days. But don’t forget to show the clinic it to put your mind at ease. Hopefully someone who’s the same might come along. All the best.

Hi there, I had one inserted 10 weeks ago. Same situation as you quite frightened me the size, it is amazing how it settles in (down) nothing like it was. A chap in the hospital showed me his scar after 3 months and could hardly see it. I still can’t sleep on stomach and not very long on lhs but can on rhs thank goodness. No improvement for me I’m afraid with dilated cardiomyopathy. All the best.

Judging by my previous experience, the swelling will go down in time, just live normally,

I have had two fitted over the years. It takes time.

Please don't stress, I've had mine for over 8 years...

I watched the op on the monitors as it happened, the small 'knot' is the bunch of wires coming together to connect into the pacemaker., much like a phone charger lead.

Once swelling and sensitivity are calmed you will barely notice. I'm quite fond of my extra feature, truth be told!

Good luck and speedy recovery.

Hi, I have a pacemaker defibrillator and it took a long time for me to adjust to it being there. I’m thin so it sticks out more. It’s been a year now and I forget it’s there looking after my heart doing it’s job. You have to give it time to settle but if you think it’s getting infected or swollen go to your doctor asap.

I had one fitted June 22 it was lumpy around the site for 6 months then seemed to disappear and heal well, sometimes I forget I have one. I can feel it under my skin top of my arm. Day to day I forget its there. Try not to dwell on it but be aware of microwave s etc . I am 75 and grateful to still be here. Good luck

When i had mine done it took about 3 weeks to heal and as it heals the bruising to the tissue underneath reduces an swelling goes down.Ther will always be a noticeable "bump" but you soon get used to it.
