I have been informed that I suffer from this and advised to start taking statins. Any advice please?

In context of arteries, it means you have calcium deposits in your arteries - which leads to calcification or stiffening of them. This calcification or plaque buildup is caused by cholesterol, which is why you need to take statins to slow the progression as much as possible.

Hope this helps.

And in in addition to to what's been mentioned apparently statins also stabilise existing plaque so that bits don't break off and cause blockages which could cause heart attacks or strokes.

By the by IF your first statin doesn't "suit" you (aka side effects) there are a lot of other statins you can change to (autocorrect keeps changing statins to some other random word!)

I expect you’ve been given diet and lifestyle advice by your doctor/nurse. But to reinforce this, you can read the latest advice by going to the NHS website and input “High Cholesterol “ to the search term to read about it.
