Calcification score

Just looking at my old CT notes and came across my old calcification score.

CT calcium score 172

Of which LAD was 154

RCA 1 and

Circumflex 17......hence why the bloody blockage was in my LAD with a score of 154

Anybody know much more about scores or want to share there's? 😊

Off to hospital Wednesday for yet another stress test with suspected coronary artery spasm or another kind of Angina

No one at hospita wanted to listen to the fact I still had ongoing chest pain in the cold and at rest etc...and didn't have that before the stent procedure

So here I am 6months post stent and maybe just maybe my cardiologist is starting to see it from my perspective

The only thing I had back from CT scans was that my right carotid artery was clear and the left one was blocked.

They just sent mine through post to me and my doctor.

Then I was booked in for my Angiogram

Unfortunately since that day in may I'm still in constant chest paon. .

I'm absolutely adamant it's coronary artery spasm...unstable angina

But this all happened AFTER my stent procedure so obviously im peed off

Back to hospital for another treadmill test this Wednesday

I'm told they will look for ST ELEVATION

If you want to get off this heart disease "treadmill" I recommend that you watch the film "Forks Over Knives". It is on Netflix and YouTube. It is about global medical research, including a massive study of 800,000 Chinese people. You might find it helpful, I did. It will show you that you can clear out your arteries. In the film, there is a bloke with 27 diseases. After 6 months on a WFPB diet he was down to 1.

The ideal BP is below 140/90. Mine has been as high as 240/140 but went down to 190/100 with treatment. I still had a mini-stroke in 2017 though. It is now 120/80. I keep a daily record and these are the averages, rounded up.

The ideal cholesterol is below 5. Mine was 6.5 for years, nothing budged it until this diet. It is now 3.7.

My weight was 14.5st and is now 12.5st, the same as when I was in my twenties.

Watch the film. What have you got to lose?

Jimmy I got my cholesterol down to 4.2 from 5.8 in 3weeks just by cutting out processed food..

Not particularly going on a plant based diet

We didn't eat processed food before the diet, or since. I blame cheese and eggs.

My Calcium score 2 years ago was 600 - this is the 75th percentile for my age group. HOWEVER , I am asymptomatic ( no symptoms at all , yet) and I sailed through the stress test. I am a runner though so perhaps my running ventures have cleared my arteries to a certain extent regardless of the calcification/hardening. I have also had carotid ultrasound scan and peripheral artery (in leg) scan - these just showed mild minor calcification. I did see a cardiologist once after I had the calcium score test result and have finally gotten my numbers down to what he recommended (which were (all mmol/L) less than 4 for total chol, more than 1 for HDL, less than 1.8 for LDL and less than 1.5 for Triglycerides)

I have never seen a calcium score for my coronary arteries. All I know is that four were over 70% blocked with the worse being the LAD at 85%. Because of excessive calcification stents were deemed not an option and I had bypass surgery.

Watch Forks Over Knives and read Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr C Esselstyn. Most of us become symptom-free and off medication with this strict lifestyle regime. In my own case, within 4 weeks. Wouldn't that be a result?

Also BP now below 125/80 without meds (had to halve the tablets and then come off them within 2 weeks because BP fell so swiftly when I switched to the WFPB diet).

You have everything to gain as Jimmyq has said above...most of all... your life back and what a life it is when you get back to full activities and some!

Nice to hear from a fellow WFPBer!

I’ve watched the film and am waiting on the books. Seen a lot of arguments both fair and against following this type of diet. My view is - what do I have to lose? So I’m gonna try it and see where the journey takes me. 😄

Rob, calcium scores of 101-400 are classed as "intermediate", with a 15% chance of a cardiac "event" (ie heart attack) in the next ten years. At 172 you're in the "intermediate" category.

If the calcium score is over 1000 then the percentage chance of an "event" in the next ten years rockets to 37%, if the calcium score is 0 the chance is 1.4%.

Thank you chappy chap I really appreciate you giving me this advice.

I've heard people say they have over a 1000 score...surely that can't be right?

Misprint I wonder..

So having a stent put in the artery that's had 154 calcification score in .

Would that of now made a difference?

Sorry to sound thick😆

It can be right, some people have scores that are approaching 2000. As far as I know anything over 1000 gets lumped into the same very high risk category. Regarding the efficacy of stenting, I'm afraid I can't comment. I had a bypass a few weeks ago and I'm now trying to educate myself on my condition, but I'll need quite a bit more time and application before I can start giving advice!

That's OK. ..I'm very thankful for your advice

And I hope you start to get better very soon.

I've heard so many good things about people having a bypass...Not that anyone would want one in the first place...But you know what I mean😊

After my CAT scan I got the report " As this persons calcium Score was 1829 the remainder of the CAT scan could not be carried out. I see my consultant in a couple of weeks and will find out what exactly that means.
