Narrowed aortic valve

Aortic stenosis is moderate to severe now so my new cardiologist says she wouldn't be surprised if I need a new valve next year and to be honest I'm not supprised if I do either feel so awful all the time 💔.

Sorry to hear this Yumz. Happy to hear however that they can do the replacement as early as next year to help get your symptoms under control. Hopefully the wait isn’t too long x

It's a shame but if you could get a replacement as early as next year you could be thinking New Year , New Lease of Life. Thinking positive thoughts for you , Bee x

I do wish you well. The problem I am having is that I saw cardiologist 2 months ago now and he told me I had Aortic Stenosis. This confirmed by echocardiogram.

But I don't know how severe or moderate. He said I will need a coronary angiogram.

I have no idea if I will need a new heart valve or not.

My Ejection Faction was 63%. I found that out by asking my GP.

Cardiologist arranged for me to have Whole Aorta CT and Carotid Vascular Ultrasound. Had these 3 weeks ago.

I am trying to find out if I can get a print out of the diagnosis and recommended treatments by the cardiologist.

When I saw him I found it all difficult to take in etc.

You can ask your cardiologist's secretary for a full copy of your echo report and diagnosis letter.

I had mine replaced over 10 years ago and it has made an amazing difference to my life. Go for it and don’t look back. You will be amazed at the difference. Best wishes

could I ask what difference it as made,

Did you have symptoms before surgery, did you go for mechanic valve.

I had a bicuspid aortic valve that progressed to moderately severe as well earlier this year. Just had it replaced on 9/6 even though I had almost zero symptoms. The doctor told me I would start to get more and more sick over the next year or two and recommended I get it replaced while I was still relatively healthy. So, I did. Still in recovery mode - some days are great and others, not so much. Personally, I wouldn't wait too long. This group and some FB groups are awesome support. Hope all goes well.

hi, just woulnderd what symptoms you are having, I've been diagnosed with mild/ moderate bicuspid aorta stenosis, & 5 cm dialation of the aorta,

also ventricular bigeminy, the symptoms I've got is terrible breathlessness, back ache, & white sticky sputum.

my cardiologist said that these symptoms are caused by the bicuspid stenosis valve. Had a mdt meeting 2 wks ago & the surgeon said they are not caused by the valve but by the extra beats which is quite severe,

My cardiologist in the letter I received

from him said he still believes symptoms are related to the valve.

The surgeon said he would not operate untill the bigeminy beats were sorted before as I would be at risk.

My symptoms have got worse in a few months x chest discomfort, breathless, fatigue, just generally exhausted all the time and feeling sick, palpitations and heart racing sometimes. Valve is moderate to severe aortic stenosis and regurgitation. Need to have a mri, stress echo, and stress test so will see if I need surgery sooner then next year and then check up in 6 months. I'm waiting for results to my holter monitor. Hope your surgery goes well.

I am so sorry you feel so awful, at least you know why. My son (24) collapsed two weeks ago with similar symptoms and has narrowing valve (bicuspid aorta) and heart murmur he is waiting to see a cardiologist unfortunately due to NHS lists it will be next March. I have Loeys-Dietz Syndrome so fingers crossed he sorted quickly and he doesn't developed the severe symptoms.

Let us know how you get on , please take care. X

Hi, I had an aortic valve replacement 20 years ago. I had the Ross procedure in which the pulmonary valve is used to replace the aortic one and the human donor valve to replace the pulmonary. It is the best choice and I have never had any problems. I hope you have a choice of this.

I had begun to feel awful for months but because of other things happening I didn't realize what the problem was until I was at the point that walking even 20 feet had me having to stop and double over trying to catch my breath and went to the ER. The cardiologist said I shouldn't even have been alive at that point. I had the TAVR done in January this year and immediately after waking up I felt 100% better.
