I wrote to you all about my son Shane having to have his aortic valve replaced quite urgently in fact . I have fantastic news that he had the surgery on Wednesday and he’s doing well . We were told it would be around 4 to 5 hours when in fact it was 7 hours so we had a very worrying few hours of not knowing what was happening. They had to repair a blood vessel to make the new valve fit which caused the delay .
He had the ventilator removed about 2 hours after surgery he was obviously awake , responsive and calm which I was so pleased about as these were the little things that worried me also
He was out of ICU yesterday so only 24 hrs after surgery he was back on the ward .
He has text a few times and as he is in a lot of pain and feeling awful plus naturally very drowsy we have now just sent little hearts to let him know although we can’t visit him , we are thinking of him
I’m sure I’ll be back here asking lots of questions as we enter into recovery at home ❤️

Great news, what a lovely way to face the new year. All done every day will be an improvement. Now on the road to recovery, ask as many questions as you need to there are plenty of us to answer.
I had mine done 6 weeks ago - reading your post he shouldn’t be in any pain - only slight discomfort. He needs to tell the nurses and they might be able to adjust his medication so he is pain free. My pain was controlled at all times even when I came home.
This is the start to a fantastic new path for him.
Hello. Bless him. I am about to see consultant for echo etc. Been told heart is very ill. Worrying about outcome. Havent energy to use my limbs much. I knew I wasnt well. Doctors kept fobbing me off. Collapsed recently, taken to a and e, CT scan revealed my news. I do hope Shane feels better soon and is discharged.
Great to hear Shane has had his op and is now on the road to recovery. Make sure he asks for extra painkillers if he needs them as if he's in pain he won't want to move or do the exercises that will help his recovery. Hopefully he'll be home very soon. Just make sure he doesn't overdo things, it's surprising how quickly you start feeling better and it is then very easy to overdo it, with painful results - I speak from experience 🤪, it's definitely a case of baby steps. Happy new year to you both.
