Bless You! So pleased to read your update! You look amazing! I’m sure I looked varying degrees of half dead for the first few days post op - so you’re doing fantastic! (It’s a good job there were no phones or mirrors in I.C.U during my stay!) 🤦🏼‍♀️

Wish you better and hopefully you’ll be back home before you know it. ❤️‍🩹

your life lays ahead. You are very brave to post the photo.

I felt an improvement every two days, then after a few months I was fully recovered and could get back to my life.

Just take things slowly.

Best wishes

Sooty

Hello :-)

I knew you would :-)

Now rest up a few days they will soon have you moving and starting your recovery

Let us know how you get on :-) x

It's looking good. Do do the breathing exercises the physio gives you. They can really improve your recovery rate. You will probably be out of bed for a short while tomorrow

Well done.

Don't do what I did, I got up the next morning at 5am and sat in the bed chair all morning, ended up getting a bed sore which was pretty painfull. I ended rotating between the chair and the bed to prevent any more sores for the rest of my chair.

great to hear that. I’m : weeks post op today and the improvements already are very obvious. The hardest part is over and your best days are all ahead…

Laurensophie profile image

How many weeks post of are you Mancunian1 ? It’s just day 2 for me. Still in ICU. Ps Thanks for messaging

hi. I’m 3 weeks post op today, 2 weeks since discharge.

I’m generally feeling very well, I’ve some tenderness in my chest but wounds healing well and fitness levels climbing. I’m up to 2 x 16 minute walks per day and slowly climbing towards 30 mins. And my breathing rate is 80% of pre surgery

My journey through surgery to icu was really good. There are days when you think nothing is improving but as you get on the ward and the tubes drains and lines start coming out you get more mobile and positive.

Keep strong, you’re doing better than you think I’m certain and take it a day at a time. I’m aiming for a 1% improvment each day and achieving it so be kind to yourself and especially listen to your body. Rest when it tells you as all your energies are being taken up healing. Keep in touch and always happy to chat.

Also once the physio turns up make good use of them getting mobile and learning some basic stretching to reduce stiff joints.

Hi sounds like you are doing really well. They do say that I am but I have to stay a 2rd night in ICU as my blood pressure is a little low,I have been given A spiroball to blow into, my word I can’t get the ball very far 😩. Pre op I was nearly up at the top. Did you manage this ?

Yes. You will find some of your initial blood work and blood pressure is out, it’s pretty common and they will infuse you as necessary to get things back on track.

Mine was exactly the same and has now steadied, albeit at a lower rate which is good.

Yes regarding the inspirometer it’s hard but really is essential to get your airways and lungs expanded. I started off in hospital at around 1200, now 3 weeks later in at around 3000, with the limit being 4000 so getting there.

It’s an easy one to overlook especially early on if you have the drain tubes in because of pain but once they are out keep persisting with it. It takes time and sometimes seems like nothing is improving but it is. It’s vital to keep the airways open to prevent and respiratory infections taking hold. I’m glad I did persist as you feel the benefits later of being able to exercise more and build your strength. Keep up the good work.

Welcome to this new chapter in your life. Don't be worried if you have an occasional off day, this is normal. And try to take things a bit easy at the start as you will soon notice a marked improvement in your energy levels. If you are offered a cardiac rehab course, take it, these are wonderful for building your confidence. Congratulations and welcome to the valve club!
