Following on from my earlier post about my anxiety of having bypass surgery (and the many fantastic replies, advice and stories) I am happy to say my quadruple bypass went ahead on Thursday and was a complete success.
Not going to lie, the first couple of days were tough but no where near as hard as I had expected. I have now had all the drains etc taken out and the last two days feel like a brand new me is emerging. Breathing is getting better by the day and today I have had no need for any additional pain relief (other than my usual tablets).
It's been strange getting to know the new me, the weird sensations and feelings my body makes etc but it's been amazing to do things without fear and to see myself getting better each hour.
The surgeon is astounded at my recovery and says I should ge able to go home in a couple of days, I can't wait. Then the hard work begins to get myself active etc.
A massive thanks to everyone for giving their advice and support, I could not have done this without you.

I am so pleased you have had your op and everything has gone well I am sure so many would have told you this would be the outcome and really pleased it is
You will soon be home and then you are right the recovery will begin but you can come and ask everyone for support and advice when you need it which I hope reassures you
Take a day at a time and let us know how you get on x
Great to hear Bertie. You'll be running around in no time!! There my be a few questions once you get back home. Just pop back on the forum and you'll get all the advice you need (as long as it's not medical! You've got a GP for that!).
Keep that positive state of mind as that's helping your quick recovery.
Many 'heartfelt' Congratulations, Bertie, and thank you for sharing your good news - it sounds as if you're doing brilliantly, a credit to the surgeons as well!👍 It's always amazing to hear such happy positive news. I'd a triple last February, discharged from hospital five days later and home to start the hard work (which isn't too hard really and I'm still loving the walks)! I'd agree with you, it genuinely wasn't as bad as I was expecting either. The first few weeks afterwards were a bit tough - in terms of not being able to drive etc., but, in painkiller terms, paracetamol was sufficient, even the morning just after the op. Eighteen months later and I feel I've been given a new lease of life - you'll soon get used to the 'New You' and enjoying your new lease of life too! 😀 Good Luck - and we'll all be here if you've any questions. Carol x
Welcome to the Zipper Club. 😀 Pleased to hear you are doing okay. There will be challenges ahead, but you will get through them. Keep positive and appreciate each small improvement, day by day.
Fantastic and well done. It can be a bit daunting going home when you are away from the safety of the hospital but just do everything they tell you. Big thing is rest....no matter how good you feel....it's a must do. Like most people after a big surgery there will be good and not so good days....steps forward and sometimes a few back but stay focussed and positive . Sounds like you are very buoyant at the moment so be careful if you feel like that and don't overdo things. I'm glad the ordeal is over for you now....onwards and upwards and I'm also pleased that people on the forum were a great help at a time when you needed a bit of support. All the best and take care x
Congratulations on having your surgery and coming through it so well! It sounds like a “new you” is emerging, and you must feel over the moon about it!
I wish you the best in your recovery when you return home. Please keep us posted about how you get on. ❤️
