AFib and Bradycardia

In April, I was diagnosed with AFib and Bradycardia, subsequently , I was told by my cardiologist to stop taking my beta blocker and aspirin. Ever since, I have struggled with intrusive, worried thoughts. Also, the main nagging symptom is an unsettled , slightly fluttering tummy rather than the heart. Any thoughts on how to deal with the nagging thoughts and settling the unsettled tummy.

Are you sure you don't have a recurrence of atrial fibrillation? Most people with AF need long term treatment (including prevention of stroke) unless it had a reversible cause such as overactive thyroid. Did the cardiologist explain why he was ceasing all medication?

Coming off the betablocker probably gave you rebound anxiety symptoms which may have then continued. In addition, going through AF in itself can make you anxious. I would recommend seeing GP/cardiologist to check and advise about your heart. Once satisfied on that front, possibly initially see psychologist if you remain anxious.

Thank you for you reply, it means a great deal. I was told that I needed to stop taking a beta blocker ( which I had been taking since I was 19 for SVT. I am now 67, because it may have been responsible for triggering the bradycardia.

Oh, I feel for you. Complex situation. You do need to speak with cardiologist about what is happening. Stopping the beta blocker - although with the low heart rate it needed to be done - after so many years would very likely give you these problems. You should have been closely monitored (and preferably weaned off slowly) and all this explained, with a view to continuing you on other medication if you do have AF. All the best into the future
