Hi, attended mdt meeting today, surgeon from mewcross & cardiologist, I'm a bit confused a

T the moment, he asked if I'd got any symptoms, I've got breathlessness, back ache, slight palpitations. White frothy phlegm in back of throat.

He was saying aorta dialation 5cm + . Mild stenosis of the valve, he was very reluctant regarding replacement as did not meet guidelines. He said the mild stenosis of the valve would not cause these symptoms, & yet my own cardiologist

Said in a letter that the ventricular bigeminy was caused by the valve.

The surgeon said not, & said the results from the 24 holter monitor showed very very high beats, & the peaks were dangerous & this was causing all the symptoms mentioned & they would not be able to operate as I may go into cardiac arrest.

I'm getting very confused as cardiologist saying one thing, & surgeon saying something completely difference. Have now been put forward for a MRI SCAN of the heart.

Ps: iv signed concent form for heart valve surgery so on waiting list very reluctantly.

He said the bicuspid valve can possibly be repaired as its only mild, I asked about resilia valve* said they are very expensive & why replace it if they can repair the bicuspid valve, it's all new to me & hard to understand.

Waiting for MRI scan & see what happens still feeling breathlessness.

Sorry if this reads a bit confusing.

Hi Parkhome. After my heart attack, the cardiologist told me I’d need a mitral valve replacement, but when I saw the surgeon he said no, the medications should pull the valve back into shape. And they did.

In your case, the surgeon is being more practical. Your valve doesn’t need replacing, and an operation would put you at unnecessary risk. An MRI will enable him to see your heart in much more detail, and show him the best way to proceed. I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the MRI.

thank you for your reply, can I ask what medication your on, the surgeon said I was at risk as he showed me the holter monitor readings & they were very scary, yet the cardiologist said nothing to worry about. Also concerned about aneurism 1515cm

I did not think the valves could be fixed by medication only surgery.

As far as I can remember, the surgeon said the scarring caused by my heart attack had pulled my valve out of shape, but the medications would force it to work more efficiently and pull it back. I believe my initial meds were Ticagrelor, Bisoprolol, Ramipril, Atorvastatin, aspirin and Lansoprazole. Eplerenone was added a couple of months later after checking that my kidneys were coping with the first lot!. That was 6 years ago, and I've had more added and switched others, so I'm now on Carvedilol, Candesartan, Rosuvastatin, Aspirin, Lansoprazole, Eplerenone, Isosorbide, Dapagliflozin, and vitamin D for good measure. I also have Furosemide and a GTN spray, both to be used on an as-and-when basis. I rattle :)
