Why have I developed an arrhythmia after having stents put in ?

Is it possible that the beta blockers that I was prescribed (bisoprolol) to help with my arteriosclerosis could be the cause of my recently diagnosed arrhythmia ?

Anyone have a similar experience or could offer any other suggestions ?

I am following this with interest. I have just been put back on bisoprolol (2.5) as my ILR was picking up spikes in my heart rate, even when resting and often in the early hours. Also my heart rate was raised above normal when walking up hills. The bisoprolol was prescribed to address this. I had 2 stents fitted last December. I can't really offer any suggestions, guess GP visit would be helpful is you can get an appt. . I was actually afraid my stents were failing, and arteries clogging up again.

Our experiences sound very similar indeed. I will be seeing another cardio in December and will let you know what they say. Cheers !

I would be very grateful if you as my next cardiology appointment is August 2025!

It is more likely your underlying coronary artery disease (rather than bisoprolol) is the cause of your arrhythmia. However, there are many different types of arrhythmia... so whoever is looking after your cardiac problems should be the one to determine cause and effect and what to do about it

The thing is I'm actually living in France and , quite apart from the language barrier , I keep seeing different cardiologists. After a second angiogram last week I've been referred back to the guy who was supposed to do my echography stress test but was unable to finish it because I had very bad chest pains , which began after stopping taking the bisoprolol to facilitate the test !

Thanks for the advice , I will bear it in mind when I go back with my carefully rehearsed questions for him.

Just out of interest , do you know which type of arrhythmia is most commonly associated with CAD. I did actually ask him at the time , but he just muttered something about it not being the worst type.

I don't want to scare you, but coronary artery disease can produce any sort of arrhythmia - including very rapid out of control types or complete cessation causing heart failure or complete cardiac arrest. You need proper advice. Take your written questions with you and be sure to get your answers and ensure you are safe

I was presribed Bisoprolol for AF and angina, it has also reduced my BP.
