Pain after having an ICD fitted

Hi I had an ICD fitted 7 weeks ago and I'm just getting used to it. I'm still quite sore and a purple patch has recently appeared at one end of the scar and looks like there is blood under the skin. The ICD seems to be pushing up from under the scar at this point so is probably causing this. Overall the scar seems intact. The ICD also seems to be moving. Is this normal?

Thanks for responding. I have an appointment booked now for next week but I was just interested to see if my experience is the norm or something out of the ordinary

My cardiac arrest was Sept 2nd and ICD fitted on the 24th. I had no bruising and it was a little uncomfortable for a few days but I did as told, don't lift arm above shoulder, don't lift etc. The wound was glued, not stitched. I can feel the ICD but under normal circumstances you just forget it's there and things do get easier

Thanks for your reassure I'm sure it will be fine. I suppose having a metal object in your chest is going to take some getting used to

I'm a glass half full type of person and never really gave it much thought. My cardiac arrest happened and I don't remember a few days before and 2 weeks after, that's gone. But what I do know is once you've been given the other chance take it and enjoy every minute you have

Hi Paul. The ICD is in a pocket, so there can be some movement - mine stands up when I scrunch myself up on my right hand side in bed, and needs to be patted flat again (I've had it 11 months now), but it shouldn't be pushing at the scar. Are you seeing the ElectroPhysicians (EPs) next week, or your GP? EP is more likely to be able to tell at a glance if anything's wrong.

Thanks Alison. It makes sense that if it's in a pocket it can move. I'm seeing an EP so hopefully they will be the best people to look at it. Fingers crossed
