Why am I getting chest pain after stents.

I've just had two stents done and everything seemed to be ok until trying to get to sleep when I got home. As soon as I lie down I get pains in my chest and both arms.

Has anyone else had this problem and do the symptoms ease or should I seek medical advice ?

Thanks.

After stents being inserted some people experience chest pain as the arteries have been stretched.

Chest pain at rest is also a classic symptom of vasospastic angina.

The BHF has this information about vasospastic angina.

It is a rare type of angina that is often overlooked and under recognised.

I have lived with vasospastic angina for 11 years. Vasospastic angina is caused by transient constrictions or narrowings of the coronary arteries, coronary vasospasms which reduces the blood supply to the heart.

I suggest you get in contact with your Cardiology team if your chestpain at rest doesn't resolve.

Hi I had 5 stents (I know!!) late Dec last year after a bout of "indigestion" . A number of weeks after I was diagnosed with Dresslers Syndrome - which is basically inflamation - plenty of info on line. The medics explained a key indicator was pain in lying down that was relieved by sitting up / leaning forward. If your pain is reduced when you sit back up this might possibly be something to ask your cardiac care team about. I was treated with tablets for a few months - same meds used for gout apparently. Hope everything improves for you very soon.

Thanks for the tip. And best wishes to you too.

This could be because the arteries get stretched when they insert the stent. Hope it settles soon!
