BP Meds and IBS

Hi everyone

Yet again I am posting about BP meds hoping someone can help.

I am now on Irbesartan after many other drugs. At first I thought I had the answer readings were good and felt ok. But the last week or so I have had lower back pain and considerable bowel problems (I have IBS which is normally under control) pain in abdomen too which is new for me. I spoke to surgery pharmacist as I am also on Clopidogrel and Rosuvastatin he has advised going back to aspirin instead of Clopidogrel. The last few days I haven't taken either as afraid of making bowels worse. In short pretty sure this is meds related but which one ? Would be very grateful for any help please!

Hello :-)

This can be a really difficult one to sort out when you have IBS as I am finding to

I am on several tablets have been a few years now and my IBS has been dreadful with flare ups as well as suffering chronic indigestion

I have kept taking them even though my Doctor has suggested in the past certain tablets we can try stopping to see if things improve or we can try a different tablet in some cases I have to admit I have had such a rough time with these meds that I am to afraid to try others incase they make matters even worse as they are bad enough as it is but I think talking with your Doctor and putting either of these suggestions to them that mine has given me even though depending that might say neither can be tried at this moment but worth asking and see what they say

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I have an appointment 24th so will soldier on till then. I am also lactose intolerant and every tablet contains lactose. Just feel like I can't win! All the best to you.

Hi Bobby. Are you taking Lansoprazole?

Hi thanks for reply. No it has been suggested but due to osteopenia Famotidine was prescribed. Really don't think any of these meds are helping at all right now. I have pulmonary sarcoidosis and have to monitor my cough which has been much worse the last few weeks. All the meds I am on say cough as side effect what with that and digestive issues life is trying at the moment !

I picked up on your IBS and know how it feels. If they do put you on Lansoprazole then maybe try 15mg instead of the usual 30mg. From my experience of having IBS for years, 30mg was the culprit for making me run to the loo, I think you may know what I mean🙁

I hope you get some real answers and help very soon x

can’t help with bp meds problem but I’m on clopidogrel and it’s far more stronger than aspirin plus you must not stop taking it just like that it’s dangerous. Please please please get back on it immediately and maybe ring 111

Thanks I have discussed it with surgery. Originally I was prescribed aspirin as preventative but moved to Clopidogrel due to acid reflux x
