Aura after TAVI

Hi all,

I had a TAVI on 21st August and had a slight electrical issue which seems to have calmed down, but I am getting a lot of visual weirdness. Bright streaks zapping about in my vision. Like migraine aura but no headache, usually after exertaion but not always.

Has anyone else had these?

Sandra

Hello Sandra, my partner had open heart surgery in Jan 2024 for mitral valve repair and yes he did experience these auras for a few weeks afterwards. The lasted for about 10-20 mins or so before going away and generally phased out over a few months. Usually happened when he was exerting himself - slightly longer walks etc. His GP said it is common after surgery / anaesthetic and it will pass. Although different situation to yours I hope it helps to know it does pass. We found speaking to the BHF Cardiac nurses very helpful to speak to about things like this, so there is always that option for any concerns or questions you may have have.

Hi Claire, I had a HA five years ago and I got migraine Auras a lot at first but they have got less and less. I never got the headaches with it though. I try not to get too stressed or tired.

Thanks for this, glad you feel OK, I have asthma as well so breathlessness is a thing for me.
