Good morning

I have a 9-10 hour return flight scheduled for next month. Has anyone done similar? Any words of advice? Thanks

Hi,

I’ve been on long haul flights a relatively short time after having an angioplasty (stents) a few times with no issue so you should be fine. I also would recommend walking the aisles and stretching your legs to keep circulation ‘up’ whilst on the plane. Once an hour as a general rule is what I keep to but there is no hard or fast advice that says you do this. If you have doubts I would recommend speaking to your GP/Cardiologist to obtain peace of mind. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your encouraging response! I have had it suggested to take 300 mg of aspirin 30 minutes before take off and to wear compression socks. Did you do either of those as well out of interest?

I’m on Aspirin as standard but a much lower dosage, I have got compression socks but being honest did not feel need to use them nor have I been advised to do so however everyone is different so I would recommend having a chat with your GP/cardiologist nonetheless. For convenience, I also use my Pharmacist for his opinion if that is an option for you? Good luck!

Thanks for your help!

Hi if I was in your situation I would go speak to a professional who will be able to advise as they should be able to see your medical history. I wish you well❤just another thought flight socks.

Had a stent put in on 31st May and currently in the Far East on holiday (flew out of UK on 13/8). Cardiologist said he would have allowed me to fly on 3rd June (day after discharge!).

That's really encouraging! Can I ask whether you take extra aspirin before take off and wear special socks? Also, I need to find a good travel insurer for our condition so would love to know who you use. Thanks!

I took my prescribed daily dosage of 75mg aspirin. I have compression socks but didn't wear it. I do get up often to use the toilet and walk around on flights. We are normally covered by Club Lloyd's travel insurance provided by Allianz so my hubby declared my condition to them and paid extra.

I am going on a long haul flight aswell , in September ,to Japan . I have microvascular angina. I am very nervous about it . I haven't been on a plane since 2016 to Greece. But reading this post has reassured me a bit.
