Update re cancer appointment

Thanksnhs profile image
44 Replies

Hi I have just received a phone call offering me an appointment on Tuesday at my local general hospital which although dreading it I want it over and done with especially since I should have had it done month's ago the girl said it was because I need a polyposcopy and they had difficulty finding someone to do it but they have a cancellation for this Tuesday. I was thinking it was more to do with my cardiologist chasing them up, a coincidence maybe! Char x

Good news that you will be seen so quickly and less time to worry. Sending positive thoughts for you, it does seem silly they only have certain people and days for different procedures. Sadly that's how it is at the moment, but hopefully things will improve. Best wishes and keep us posted xx Sue

Thank you Sue and I hope you and Ralph are doing well.I am so glad just to get the appointment and it's a bonus to have it done in my local hospital since I won't be able to drive. I have to go up today and pick up the dreaded prep they don't want it to go missing in the post. I will post an update after it's done, the last time they told me immediately what they had found. Char xx

The prep is wonderful isn't it?😱 At my last colonoscopy September last year I actually watched on the screen and they said what they thought at the time, and thankfully they were right.xx

I think it's the worst bit dreadful stuff, maybe watching it will take my mind off what they are doing 😅I have watched a lot of the cardiac procedures it is quite fascinating what they can do now. Char xx

ask for sedation before the procedure. I did'nt and wished i had asked .They did not offer.

I had it the last time but it was still pretty bad I was wondering if they could give more, I suppose it depends what the doctor says at least it should be quicker this time. Char

Thank goodness for that finally an appointment it would have been considerate of them to let you know why there's been this long delay though after having surgery for cancer, just a little bit of patient compassion would have been great.I think you're right though 're your cardiologist intervention.

Take care xx

They said they couldn't find anyone that could remove polyps and then they got a cancellation for Tuesday and it just so happens that this Doctor can remove polyps, my what a coincidence just after the Jubilee contacted them 😅it would have been nice when I left messages if someone could have phoned me back instead of just ignoring my messages. I will let you know how it goes 🤞char xx

morning char,

I am sure it’s your transplant surgeon putting a bomb under them! I know how difficult Tuesday will be but you have faced so much in the last few years so onwards!

You will be in my thoughts let us know how you get on.

Best wishes Pauline x

Thank you Pauline I definitely think it was the pressure the Jubilee put on them that I got an appointment right away it shouldn't have to be like that. I am now in grumpy scared mode but really glad I am getting it done soon, as I keep worrying about it in case they find something. My friend has bought a caravan over in Millport and we are getting the train to largs tomorrow and going over for a visit that should definitely take my mind off it and it's supposed to be dry it will be great if it is 👍🌞char xx

Your going on an adventure and so what if the weather doesn't do what it should in August enjoy the fun.I totally understand about being grumpy and scared I would be too but take the positive and the sooner it's over and done with the better.

I was speaking to my sister she's now five years cancer free after her colorectal surgery as you know she lives in America her surgeon still sees her every three months and she has colonoscopy and scans regularly I guess this is the difference between our two systems. I keep telling her you do know if you were still living in England you would be lucky to see you're surgeon/oncologist every 6 months .

I finally have my appointment with the irregular heartbeat consultant next Tuesday and been told it's a full day as they want to do a barrage of tests before I see the doctor. Right now though I'm in agony with hip and knee pain and been resting for over a week as I had been relatively pain free for two days this morning I decided to go for a walk now I'm in agony again it's so frustrating🙄

Have a good laugh if nothing else this weekend xx

We will do, it will be nice to go somewhere different even though it's not too far from where we stay. That's great care your sister gets in America I don't think I will get anything like it here they seem to pushed to be able to do anything like that especially scans.

Sorry to hear that you have been in pain it is an awful thing when it suddenly comes back, mine is mostly in my hands it can be awful at times.

I hope your appointment goes well, it's sounds good that they are doing lots of tests, let me know how you get on. Take care char xx

Used to visit Largs as a child I’m sure the ice cream place was called Nardini’s (I’m now 75) so probably long gone . Good luck next week .🤞

Morning, I'm afraid it didn't go well at all it was absolutely awful, they had too many problems due to scaring and one they couldn't reach because of the position of it. If I thought the first time was bad it was a walk in the park compared to that one and it was a senior consultant that done it. I now have to go back in again for a general anesthetic I am worried sick about it, time is marching on and I know there is a risk of them turning cancerous and also the risk of anesthetic to my heart my cardiologist won't be too happy about the whole thing. The original Dr said he couldn't reach them but he thought the surgeon would have done them, which made sense but she explained that because of the length of time the op took she thought it was better going back in to get them removed. I'm now 8 months since diagnosis, 6 from op and they are saying it might be another two before they try again. . I am gutted about the whole thing. Char xx

So sorry to hear it didn't go as well as planned for you, what a nightmare and now having to wait again for further surgery.Let's hope next time will be successful and this time next year this will all be a distant memory🙏xx

Thank you I just wanted it over and done with and now I feel it's a step back and of course another wait, it just goes on and on. I will let you know when I get the next appointment through xx

At least it will be done on Tuesday and hopefully you will get the results quickly. I know it's hard but try not to worry whilst waiting for the results. And remember to rest after having it done and no heavy lifting or vacuum cleaning. Or anything that will make you hurt inside as you will be sore so make sure you take painkillers. And make sure you wear a pad as you will bleed for a while .
