I'm taking Atorvastatin 20mg and I'm suffering from very painful flatulence. Looking at all my drugs I'm taking (Eplerenone, Dapagliflozin, Entresto, laprozole, bisoprolol) the statin is the only one which states it may cause wind. Does anybody else have this and have you identified which medicine may be the cause please? Thank you.

Atorvastatin or other heart medicines side effects
re flatulence on Atorvastatin - I had the same but after 3 months on it, it does seem to be easing. Very embarrassing. I had to visit the loo more often to release it! I have persisted though as want the benefits of taking a statin
If you believe you have unpleasant side effects from taking any medication you should discuss with your GP or a pharmacist. A change in medication might be in order. And certainly lansoprazole lists 'wind' as a possible side effect, in addition to what could be expected from atorvastatin.
Hello. Sorry to hear your having problems with medication. I am taking the same satin and previously laprozole and this was the medication causing issues. I know everyone is different and acts differently to medication but this one really upset my stomach. Might be an idea to talk with your GP for advise. Hope you get this sorted soon.
hi I’m sorry to hear your having problems with your medication.. I have been on atorvastatin for a long while now at first I had the same problem but after a while it seemed to stop , I’m now on the maximum dose of 80 mg and everything seems to be ok . I hope it stops for you soon 🙏
Lansoprazole gave me problems they changed it to Famotidine.
I have been on Atorovastin for a while, I did have some flatulence problems, come and go. But I don't think any one of the meds is to blame! Just body adaptations which should ease off in time, also there are dietery considerations as well.
Been on Statins for ages now probably since they came into use I was changed to Rosuvastatin 20 mg and later added to this ezitimbe 10 mg.
Can’t say it’s painful but do get some but part of that could be down to old age as well.
I’m 78 at age 31 in 1977 had a triple bypass now The GWR holder for longest surviving patient nearly 47 years. However the drugs I am on have obviously worked never thought I would even be here now and play walking football, ride bikes play a little golf.
I do worry about doctors dishing drugs out I remember seeing those drug company reps waiting to badger doctors with their products.Commission being paid I dare say if doctor prescribed them. Hopefully doctors prescribe them for the right reasons in my case they certainly have.
Amazing, keep smashing your own record. Wishing you healthy and very long life.
Several of my meds state flatulence as a side effect, but don't forget your, possibly new, diet containing a lot more veg and other fibre rich foods, all good flatulence fuels. My wind is chronic, huge explosions, but I've learned to accept it, I did hold it in and move to a quiet area to gently release it in the beginning, but I now let it loose as soon as it needs be, no more holding in and I'm happier for it, make a joke or be lighthearted about it and it quickly stops to be embarrassing.
Thank you all for your replies. I've read other posts and I'm new to this forum but what a wonderful supportive community you all are!
Several of the drugs I was given listed flatulence as a side effect. I almost got to the stage of buying a dog so I had something I could blame for all the "wind effects" :-). Like honeybubs lanzaprozole had really bad side effects. So much so, I was spending way too much time in "contemplation" in the smallest room in the house. I was also swapped to famotidine.
Having said all that I have radically overhauled my diet which might also be a contributing factor
Has anyone experienced more than just flatulence with Atorvastatin? I'm talking random diarrhea. Ever since I was increased to 80mg, it seems to have wreaked havoc on my "regularity" and it's very disconcerting and unpredictable.
