Swollen and painful feet after walking

Can I please ask for a bit of advice with swelling of feet. I'm 9 weeks post 2nd ablation. I thought I'd try upping my steps a tiny bit today so went for a slightly longer walk. I could feel my legs and feet being really painful. Got home and realised my leg/feet had swollen up. It's quite painful.

Any advise on how to avoid this. I really thought walking would help with any swelling symptoms 😕

I suggest you make an appointment with your GP. There could be many reasons why you are getting swelling after walking and your GP is best placed to make a diagnosis given your medical history and personal circumstances, and following that you will hopefully find a suitable treatment solution.

Thankyou for the reply. I'll be speaking to my G.P today hopefully. Elevation helped but pain us still there.

Do you have varicose veins or a family history of them? Venous insufficiency is a common cause of pedal edema. Other causes are cardiac, kidney, liver pathology and low serum albumin. These causes aren't usually accompanied by pain in the legs or feet. Venous insufficiency makes your legs feel very congested. Elevate your feet when sitting, wear compression stockings, avoid salt and,as advised, have a physical examination & appropriate metabolic blood testing.

Thankyou for replying.

Not had any mention of varicose veins and no family history either.

I'll be speaking to my G.P today hopefully. I suspect he will say it's cardiac issue. Elevation has taken the swelling away but it's still very painful. I avoid salt already since having AF issues.

Hi, I had a swelling post ablation , 8 weeks after. My cardiologist prescribed me forosemide again & doubles the dose as an impact. Reduced swelling again now. Are you on water retention meds? Ps I hope your feeling better.

Thankyou for sharing. Spoken to G.P who basically said let the cardiologist know. So I have sent them an email. Just been told to avoid salt amd keep legs elevated.

I'm not sure if the meds I'm on are ones that cause water retention - flecanaide, edoxaban, veraprimil. I have asked the cardiologist about it.

I remember being given a 2 week course furosemide after my first ablation. It did help maybe I can be prescribed some more.

Thankyou elevation & pain meds are helping for now. My legs just feel so heavy 🙁
