Glaucoma Eye Drops and Heart Disease.

As a 75 yr old with heart disease, ( triple bypass 10yrs ago ) I’ve been diagnosed with the onset of glaucoma. I’ve been prescribed two eye drop medications. Travoprost, and Brinzolamide/Timolol Mylan. The side effects fact sheet is a pretty scary read etc, with particular emphasis on the heart.

I would be interested if anyone has any experience of this treatment etc. Thanks.

Hello, I hope this helps and naturally we are all different, but my husband is fine with the same drops. His eyes can twitch sometimes but nothing else. He’s had regular check ups and the drops are working. May I wish you the best of luck. Judi

no personal experience with these - but a pharmcist may be able tooffer advice with potential side effects

my mum's glaucoma eye drops made her eyes sore until we found out about additional lubricating eyedrops - ask a senior staff member at your opticians if you can't ask your opthalmology dept staff

Five years post bypass I've been on Bimatoprost eye drops for Glaucoma for some 3+ years with no side effects, although some are mentioned. There is a Glaucoma UK website you might find helpful and advice and help in applying eye drops, some of which can be tricky! I'm sure your GP/Pharmacist can advise. We need some type of eye drops to prevent loss of sight.

Hi Ernie, I am 85 and have heart failure and PAF, also have had Glaucoma suspect in both eyes. I have been on eye drops similar to yours. A couple of years ago I was prescribed anther eye drop Simbrinza which really irritated my eyes. I also have a dry eye condition which requires other drops and treatments.

Luckily my optician recommended that I stop the Simbrinza and asked for preservative free eye drops in a letter to my GP. I have regular checkups at the local eye hospital and heart issues associated with glaucoma have never been mentioned.

My current eye drops are Lantanoprost and Dorzollamide, both prerogative free.

One piece of advise from the Opthamologist was always take the drops on schedule as being regular maximises the effectiveness .

Take care and live long
