Is Diastolic Dysfunction classed as heart disease?

Hi, I’ve just been diagnosed with Diastolic Dysfunction and wanted to know if that is classed as heart disease. I started to get a swollen left foot and leg and breathlessness when exerting myself and a BNP blood result of 470 about 15 weeks ago out of the blue. I had a ecg, doplar test on my legs and a ultrasound of my heart. The specialist said that the rest of my heart looks good and no problems with the arteries or the pumping of the heart. So no heart failure. Treatment will be water tablets, light exercise and low salt diet. I don’t know if I should be concerned or not.

Thanks. I have just sent a list of questions to my cardiologist as I need answers. I’ll let you know what he says. Is it a heart condition or heart disease?

Hi woodwalker,

I am on Furomeside my heart isn't pumping properly to, I had AFIB aftery heart was slowed down with drugs, Cardiologist said after ECD my EF was 45%, I think I've got LVD heart failure so when I see my Cardiologist next going to ask him I need to know what caused it, do you suffer from Breathlessness due to water retention if you don't take Furomeside

Thank You

Hope you're okay 👍

I only started Furosemide last week at 20mg & it made me feel sick, dizzy, light headed & anxious. So I took 10 mg the next day & it still made me feel sick so I’m going to try 5mg tomorrow & see how I feel. I’m only 7 stone 3 pounds so maybe I can get away with a smaller dose. Did they make you feel ill when you started taking them & if so did you feel ok after you took them a while?

I get breathless when I exert myself & my left leg is the most swollen leg. I’ve written to my cardiologist today to ask some more questions. Did they tell you what they class it as? Is it a heart condition, heart disease or heart failure?

Hi, ive had no side effects at all when I started taking Furomeside I took 40mg twice a day for my water retention in ankles and feet after a couple of weeks my Cardio reduced to 40mg once a day I'm on Bisoprolol, 5mg twice daily to slow my heart rate down, Eliquis to thin my blood to protect from strokes. I think it's a heart condition but don't know what, I do get breath less when I exert myself but I walk about 1 hour when I can and I have no problem doing jobs around home & garden,

I will keep in touch take care, it's good to talk isn't it,

👍

Hi, how have you been the last 2 weeks,

Hi, I went off furomeside for 3 days but like you I am fully active. If the swelling in your legs and ankles is water retention the furomeside should work,

I was 21st 10lbs in August I am now 18st 13lbs.some of that loss is water but I've changed my diet now salads and fish, chicken berries etc. Also I can't have more than 2 litres of liquid a day and salt intake 2.000 mg only per day, sorry you have COPD.

I went end of July for a covid test due to breathing problems and cough, result was negative, still had symptoms doctor sent me for chest xrays and Blood test that's how they found out I have a heart problem Atrial Fibrillation irregular heart beat.

It's good to talk, take care, I will keep in touch,

😍

When my feet and ankles swelled up, yes I got an aching feeling in my feet it eased after taking furomeside and cleared the swelling.

Sorry your legs and feet swell I'm no GP but I wonder if you need to take furomeside twice a day that's 80mg, it's good you keep moving but don't over do it,because that won't help your feet and ankles they will ache as ive found out,but like you I plod on and I have my good days and better days, look after yourself 😍
