If a 7-day monitor doesn't find anything, do you ever hear back?

I had a monitor in February and got a letter this morning for a cardiologist appointment in June. I've had a 24-hour one last summer that made the GP refer me to a cardiologist but both 12-lead ECGs I've had didn't find anything (I have suspected tachycardia, specifically SVT, so I wasn't expecting anything from those if I'm just lying still for 15 seconds).

My feelings are that there's something there and I'm hoping the results validate those feelings.

My thought is that if they didn't find anything, they either wouldn't contact me again or they'd just update my records to say the results were clear. But by having an appointment with a cardiologist consultant (the same one who ordered the test), it's making me think there's something to discuss.

What's people's experience with test results? I know normally you'd be hoping for clear results but I'm sure there's something there so I'm actually wanting to hear that I'm right (if that makes sense in a nice way?)

Hello :-)

From my experience if everything is clear they may just send that through to your Doctor and discharge you

If there is something and it does not have to be major but they may give you another appointment but some may give you an appointment just to tell you everything is ok and that they are discharging you depends how they personally work

Try not to worry to much even though I know that is easier said than done and let us know how you get on :-) x

I agree with BeKind28, I've been called into cardiology to tell me that they are going to put me on the pifu ? (patient initiated referral) for 3 years. If they've not heard from me I'll be discharged. Please don't worry about appointments, they are for admissions and discharge too.

UPDATE I had a letter this morning as a copy from the cardiologist to the GP. I reported a palpitation during my ECG so they had a look and found a narrow complex tachycardia lasting almost 9 minutes at 264bpm so I've been diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia.

It looks like the appointment with the cardiologist will be discussing what that means, managing my condition, and seeing if I need anything further.

Great question. Hopefully if there were an urgent problem picked up that would have been communicated, so that's probably the good news. You have an appointment and to be honest, that doesn't seem a very long wait time, but that does nothing for your anxiety. The heart is such a devilishly complex organ there are so many directions to go, and that's not to mention the pipes and electrics servicing the pump.

Just as your GP will say, don't ask me questions, I'm not a specialist, especially about matters of the heart, so the various cardiovascular specialisms are very niche too.

What you can do in the meantime is perhaps turn yourself to other matters of the body that impact on wellness and cardiovascular health. Whatever the outcome of your eventual appointment, they will be helped by such initiative and you will know you are trying to help the doctors do their bit. It will hopefully turn your mind in a more positive direction.

After a stroke being fortunate enough to be mobile, I started Couch to 5k and taking my diet more seriously. It wasn't bad, just made it better. I clearly had underlying problems, albeit undiagnosed, and eventually an implanted loop recorder ILR , a 24/7/365 ECG working wiressly to a base unit picked up occasional Afib. And the story began.....But the work to improve my health meant I was stronger when the next probably inevitable event came along, andI remain in a better place than might otherwise have been.
