Angiogram results

Hello

Just an update I had my angiogram on Monday, then today the Cardiologist Consultant rang me to tell me that I was clear for any blockages or fur in my arteries but they did find something else. He said that my right artery was fine it was on the right and stayed on the right, but my left artery was on the left but crossed over to the right?? He would like me to go for a treadmill stress test to see what the results of them are first before deciding next course of action, he also said I had this from Birth?? Was in total shock so didnt ask him what this means?? It sounds serious though?? Has anyone heard of this and if so what is it called??

Thank you for your help

This sounds a bit like a report I had - a congenital abnormaility but nothing to worry about unduly - apparently lots of people are 'wired' wrongly - something to do with what usually happens soon after birth. My Vena Cava is on the opposite side - the only thing I have been told is that if I ever need a pacemaker - tell the cardiologist as it makes a difference to how they implant it.

Yea, I have a heart abnormality from birth which was discovered, like you, later in life. I was subsequently told by the cardiologist the details and was terrified. Later when speaking of my fears with a Cardiac Nursing Sister she said nowadays they can work wonders with medicines. My immediate reaction was, ''yea right''!! That was fifty years ago and guess what, she was right. Good Luck.

That angio you had Kazc71 - was that an angio where they push wires from your wrist/groin into the coronary arteries whilst watching the TV screen? Or was that a non-invasive angio where you get a dye injection and then you go into a doughnut-shaped CT scanner lying down to take pictures of the coronary arteries?

Thanks for all your replies, it's so lovely the support you have from people on this forum and is very informative. Its nice to know that I'm not on my own, we all are having similar experiences and sometimes just talking to someone with more knowledge or same experience is always helpful and puts me at ease. The angiogram I had was with the die through the cannula??? Once they saw my heart they called the consultant to take a look for his opinion, hence why he rang me to tell me my news.

oh, so your angio was not the invasive one (where they push wires into the artery in either the wrist or the groin). Thank you for clearing that detail.

The good news for you is that there is no blockage, narrowing or furring up in your heart arteries. That is a big concern which you don't have! The majority of us here have that problem.

No I have a criss crossed heart which is actually more serious, also can I add having no fur arteries or narrowing does not mean you do not have Angina btw.. they have to do further tests to rule out micro vascular angina so I cant see how this makes things any better for me compared to you or others. At the end of the day I dont want to be unwell, just like other people on here, I just wanted some support and advice?? Sorry dont really understand where your coming from with this, the consultant is concerned that's why he contacted me, regardless if I had invasive or a general angiogram makes no difference. Thanks anyway

Did he say how long you would have to wait for the stress test? When I had mine the consultant was present so I had a consultation as soon as the test was finished to decide plan. Therefore it might be worth being prepared with any questions when you attend the test.

It’s a shock to hear you’ve got a congenital condition that suddenly starts giving you symptoms in adult hood but sometimes it helps to makes sense of somethings that happened in childhood or as a teen.

Hi Sarah, yes the consultant said he would be present, as far as I know he wants me to be seen asap so probably this week?? Yes it was a total shock when he said that I was born with this, it does make me think about things that have happened to me and how I have physically dealt with them because of maybe my heart. It is very strange but I guess it's something that now they will have to deal with as best as I can, although today they can do so much so i am very positive about the whole thing. Appreciate everyday thats my motto...

In a way I’ve found it easier knowing what the problem was although not the same as yours. I spent a long time being fobbed off by GP so to get a diagnosis was a relief. I’ve also learnt to listen to my body and not to try to push through when tired/in pain.

In the months prior to my diagnosis I joined local gym and was really pushing myself as had been told so many times there wasn’t anything wrong with me so decided I must work hard and get fit. Then suddenly I found myself not allowed to have a stress test without a consultant present just incase 😱

Omg yes.. Same, I was going Gym but always seemed so out of breath, and struggled more than others in my class and now it makes sense? The consultant said the same, need some health professional present when I have a stress test but he will be there so no need.

Good luck with the stress test and moving forward with your diagnosis. Let us know how you get on.
