Angina
Hi I dont know if its a symptom or not really but I also have burping most of the time as my angina comes on especially in the mornings and that was one of the reasons i didnt realize it was angina at first. I am now waiting for a 3xbypass but with all the medications find I now get lots of hiccups randomly very annoying lol
never heard of such a thing personally
It is quite possible that your angina is not actually angina at all but a symptom of reflux disease or as hiatus hernia which is gastro rather than cardio related. Both these conditions can give you chest pains or discomfort as well as burping. I was told I had angina when I turned up at A&E (twice in short succession) with symptoms of chest discomfort and post NSTEMI, but the cardio people never appeared to be fully convinced of their diagnosis when I told them I had reflux disease and likely a 'grumbling' hiatus hernia, and in the end after an angiogram and the angina meds had made no difference, reversed their diagnosis and concluded my problems at the time were entirely gastro not cardio.
My chest pain would feel like a pressure ( like I had drank a lot of fuzzy) and I would burp which temporarily felt like it relieved it ... Went to GP about it Sept 2022 as it wouldn't go away, 100% blocked LAD and triple bypass Feb 2023.
Its worth looking up the "Vagus nerve"
Vagus involvement makes so much sense in my case of mild resting angina. Recent shoulder & rotator cuff injury, worse when lying on left side, better when bearing down have all been mentioned in connection with vagal atrial fibrillation, and all three and more are true for me.
Its worth chatting to your Gp although many don't seem that interested in the vagus nerve. Hopefully if you can explain the symptoms as well as you have done here that might help a diagnosis..
There are some very good videos on the internet about the Vagus nerve.
I have a GP appointment next Friday and am rehearsing my evidence. Then a hospital cardiology appointment at the end of the month. My dilemma there is: do I go and have another negative ECG, or do I somehow manage to press on the back of my neck in a place that will pretty certainly bring on the symptoms?
Perhaps it would be best if you could get your GP to press on the spot, rather than you! Let us all know how you get on, won't you?
Yes but it won't be during the ECG! Maybe she'll do a before and after stethoscope and blood pressure, that may show it up.
Yes I'll report back. What about you, do you have vagal involvement yourself?
Don't know about angina but when i has my NSTEMI i burped for England. That and the nausea were the main initial symptoms.
yeah i do, even before I took heart attack had a lot of wind, thought it was indigestion
Hi
my journey towards a CABG procedure started with heartburn symptoms loads of burping, hiccups at silly times and then eventually chest pain & discomfort which I later learned was angina
It was the burping & heartburn that prompted the visit to the doctors
From first symptom of burping to identifying I needed a bypass (4x bypass) took around 5 months
You are not alone
I burp a lot ..and have various aches and pains all over torso but mainly chest. Not generally severe..I also have hiatus hernia!!But not convinced ..the pains/ discomfort cause me anxiety more than anything…so doctors assistant ( never see GP) always say go to A &E ..but would be there on daily basis. Not sure what to do..
No but when I had a heart attack, my ONLY symptom was 3 days of unbelievably bad, painful burping.
I have seen a couple of patients who mistook angina for indigestion because the discomfort provoked them to belch. The key was that they didn't report belching after meals or at other times when at rest but did note it while bicycle riding or walking up inclines. Both ended up with very abnormal stress test results and had bypass surgery requiring grafts, one had 4, the other 3.
Hello, carpetng. Fourteen months, ago, whilst walking up hills, I started having lots of huge burping, accompanied by extreme pressure across my chest, and having to stop, every now and again, to catch my breath. Three weeks later, this also occurred when I was walking on tbe flat. Then, I took myself to A&E, where I was diagnosed with Unstable Angina. Five weeks later a I had a Triple Coronary Artery Bypass Operation.
I burp deliberately when I have my mild angina symptoms. It seems to help but may be no more than a distraction.
That said, I want to say that surely anyone who has ever had acid reflux etc will know that the symptoms are COMPLETELY different from angina. Does acid reflux give left arm and jaw ache? It baffles me that people find them so hard to tell apart.
I will follow up the vagus nerve mention. That could make sense in my case.
I've had experience with a couple of patients who mistook angina for indigestion causing them to burp. The key was the symptom only came with exertion such as bike riding in one case. The key was that both patients did not have urges to burp after meals or at rest, both had very abnormal stress tests, one had open heart surgery requiring 5 grafts, the other did well with angioplasty & 2 stents.
