I haven’t flown since my ICD was implanted. Do security need any particular proof? I have my card with the device details but wondered if I need a letter from the hospital. I’m flying to Italy from Gatwick.

travelling with an ICD
Assuming your medical team have given the ok for you to fly, your ICD card is recognised at most, if not all, national & international airports, you just need to show security your card and usually they'll wave the wand thing over you rather than go through the security scanners, although a lot of the scanners are now ICD compatible. With regards to a 'fitness to fly' letter I would check the airlines small print terms & conditions. My husband has an ICD, he's flown loads of times & has never had to supply a letter. I would suggest you research where the nearest ICD/pacing clinic is to where you're staying. Papworth advised my husband to do this in the unlikely event his ICD needed to be checked for any reason while he was away. Have a look at the website of your ICD manufacturer, you may find a list of clinics there. Medtronic certainly used to have a list.
The only other thing to do is enjoy & have a fabulous holiday, I love Italy, 2 of my friends are doing a tour there next month, I'm very envious.
