Convulsions and passing out

Hi, I am spanl5,

I had a stroke in 2021 after being diagnosed with Afib I am mostly recovered but left leg not always obedient. I am now in PAF and take Bisoprolol 5Mg, Ramipril 5mg, Edoxaban 60mg and Spironolactone 25 mg. My af kicks in every couple of weeks and can last just a few hours or 2 days during which I feel just "off" hard to describe. Used to be I felt a bit faint ( a funny turn) and then was ok. More recently I have passed out a few times and also had convulsions on a few occasions.

Today I landed on the deck before breakfast and have had a few turns and convulsions at least 3 times. I saw a GP in December about the latter in case it was epilepsy...he said not as no tongue biting or urination....his words. which while I believe is not epilepsy his reasoning does not inspire me with confidence.

I would feel better if I thought other people had similar experiences. I think it may be to do with the meds.

I’m sorry I have no specific advice to offer as I don’t have experiences with your conditions but if you are having convulsions, and you had a couple this morning, you really need to go down to A&E or call 999. Please have someone drive you if you choose not to call an ambulance but it definitely requires more investigation and your GP’s response does not seem sufficient in my opinion and further reasons need to be ruled in/out.

If you are suffering convulsions you need to ring AandE and go immediately, do not drive yourself or travel alone.Call an ambulance if you have not got someone to give you a lift.

There could be various serious reasons for these convulsions and apart from the risk of injury from these fits it is better to be seen and tested as near to the event as possible to help them diagnose the problem, especially if it is being caused by some sort of toxin , chemical change in the body , or a clot.

There could be various reasons for your convulsions , not just epilepsy and you're GP should be taking this far more seriously.

I'd also like to know which century the GP trained in , not every person with Epilepsy experiences urination or tongue biting during every Grand Mal attack.

I would suggest you see another GP at your surgery to discuss things in future and firmly request that the hospital organise an urgent referral for you with Neurology for tests if they don't do all of your tests when you are in AandE.

But at the moment , you need to go to AandE , do not delay it .
