So Long Bisoprolol... bit more info

Hiya Hearties,

Forgot to say before, my consultant has put me through a Cardiac Stress MRI with Contrast. This showed a few things, firstly good flow around the heart, so no appreciable new stenosis or narrowing of the main pipes...yaaay. Secondly, a slightly improved EF up to 41% from 38%...yaaay

and thirdly, scarring throughout the RCA territory....booo. So I've not exactly come away scot free so to speak, but the alternative...well?

It was a calculated decision after lots of consults and readings to come off the beta blocker and I'm seeing my GP later this month to review how I'm doing...and so far so good. BP today was 111/71 and 110/70, really pleased with this and resting HR up to 55. I've noticed the old ticker does come up a bit more rapidly but not overly so, again need time to get used to the new me...again!

Thanks to all who've taken the time to reply & I've tried to reply back, sorry if I've missed anyone.

Bisoprolol seems to be quite a talking point, it's a powerful med & everyone seems to be on different doses & for varying reasons...mine was for future protection & was a difficult decision to try this. I fully intend to stay on the Ramipril, statin & aspirin, as I feel these will provide good protection for me going forward. I have permanent scarring around my heart and have mild impairment. My job is to stay as fit as I'm able, eat sensibly and take my meds, but with care not to over do it, listen to your body, it'll tell you if you made a booboo, and boy we all know how that feels!

I do see a time in the future when I will probably go back on a beta blocker & I'll be keeping a close watch on myself in the meantime.

Keep well all...parting thought -

"you don't know until you try and if you don't try, you'll never know " 😜

Thanks for the feed back on Bisoprolol, yours is the only positive one! All other comments say "reduction in HR" at my cardiologist's reveiw, this has just been prescribed, to increase my HR!

After reading all the negatives for Bisoprolol I was about to resist taking it, but now, I'm thinking, I'llgive it a go!

The main and only reason I'm trying this is because my BP & HR were just dropping too low for me. I would certainly have stayed on this if a smaller dose were available (without me having to cut an already v small tablet in half). With my permanent damage, longevity and quality of life are always in my, and my family's thoughts.

Yes this powerfully wicked little tablet certainly attracts it's fair share of attention on this forum and it is an important med as are all the others (and their alternatives) and as I said, we're all on these meds for a variety of reasons.

If people can tolerate your meds, whatever they may be and whatever reason you're on them, then please follow your Medical Professionals advice...and stay with it.

Last thought, the Registrar, who came to see me with my discharge letter when I went home after my two angioplasties, said to me, "we've fixed what we can, the rest is up to you"...he went on to tell me the most frustrating thing he & his colleagues see, is that some patients don't change their ways, just go on as before, their choice! I said, tell me how high and how far I need to jump & I'll do it...I don't need convincing to change, I've seen the other side - major HA, emergency intervention, high risk of cardiac arrest & that was quite enough for me thanks.

Take care
