I hope posters with pacemakers will respond but in the meantime (if it’s Fitbit) you can ask for help through the app. Of course they may not know the answer.
I had OHS and a pacemaker implanted a couple of weeks after. I have a Garmin fitness watch and also a Fitbit, but found that neither have me the same readings and they added to my anxiety when my the numbers went too high or too low.The Pacemaker clinic called them anxiety inducers too and told me to use them for Step count only and just go on how I feel. Any little movement of your wrist can cause a false reading.
When I go to the gym my Fitbit quite often tells me on a warm up treadmill walk that my HR is over 200, when it clearly isn't 😂.
But that's OK, I take no notice and just go on how I feel at the time.
So I followed the clinics advice and just use it now to try and do 12000 steps a day instead
Thankyou Joanne. That’s really helpful because I actually only want it to count steps which is my motivator. I don’t use the gym. Never have, so that would be a big bodily shock! I will now start using my Fitbit when on my longer walks. I’m also planning to contact the PM manufacturers ( I have the Lot number) to see what they say.
My wife has a two-lead pacemaker and she wears an Apple Watch on her left wrist. No one has ever told her to take it off. She met with her cardiologist yesterday and mentioned that her watch can show a heart rate lower than her pacemaker setting. He confirmed that this would be the watch not the pacemaker.
When her pacemaker was first fitted, we asked about induction hubs. She was told that she would have to lie across it to impact her pacemaker. Worst case, the pacemaker would just revert to its base settings.
Many thanks for you response. You confirm what I hoped to hear. After sending off a quick email to the manufacturers with my query, I got a phone call from one of the tech people. There’s absolutely no risk and no report of adverse reactions, according to the company. When I questioned why there is so much literature stating otherwise, he felt that it was a case of probably simply erring on the side of caution. Obvs I would not risk putting it in a breast pocket but there should be no risk if I wear in the normal way. That’s good news so I’ll shut my query on this site down now . Thankyou all for your help. 😊
If you want to be doubly careful, I believe it is possible to get an App that wil estimate how many steps you cover (but not your heart rate, of course).
