I am due to have a CRT-P implant and an AV node ablation. If others out there have had this I would like to know what is what like and did it improve their quality of life. It is so difficult to ask the professionals question, so left feeling very nervous about these procedures..

I have had a CRT-D implant Cardiologist suggested av node ablation which I did not want, as I didn’t want to totally rely on the implant. Fortunately I went to see an expert on the subject who said I didn’t need the ablation.
I’ve had a CRT-D fitted in August last year and feel so much better for it. It has synchronised my heart beats and my EF has increased from 35 to 45. Highly recommended you having it done but they always say there could be complications for any operation. It takes a while to get used to it and you are told not to lift your arm for a long time and the first few weeks the wound feels very sore. Ablation was mentioned before I had the procedure but haven’t had it done, will be seeing Cardiology in a couple of weeks to discuss whether I need it or not. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Thank you both for your replies, both of your implants were CRT-D, mine is a CRT-P, so a little different? it is really the ablation element that worries me the most.. I was also quite shocked to see consultants letter that mentioned heart failure, when no person has once mentioned that to me. before.
Hi paintbook, I had a CRT-P fitted and an AV node ablation and I can honestly say it changed the quality of my life. I am able to do so much more than before the procedure. Yes there’s always the worry of being 100% paced but after a while you don’t think about it so much. Good luck with your procedure and don’t rush your recovery. 😊
Both devices are fitted the same as far as I know mine has 3 leads so not sure about yours but you can Google it. They might not know themselves whether you need an ablation yet until you’ve had your device fitted as that’s what has happened to me. I will be seeing my Cardiologist on 7th March so will find out more then. I will make a note to let you know how it goes and the reasons they say why I should have to have an ablation. I’m worried about this procedure myself and he mentioned the Amiodarone tablets which have horrible side affects including covering up completely in any sun winter and summer as it will burn you I’ve been told. I’m hoping they just leave me as I am with the device and the concoction of tablets I’m already on. Hope other people can help you with their experiences.
I had a CRT-P fitted about 12 years ago before an AVnode ablation (pace and ablate). 5 yrs ago I had a CRT-D fitted, due to illness progression and my batteries running low.
thanks for you caring replies. they have given me more reassurance and confidence to go ahead. in coming months, I don't know when these procedures will take place, just on the list and marked urgent. thanks again
