Pains uncomfortable
Hi Yodayoz,
Sorry to hear about your night. Have you been diagnosed with a heart rhythm disorder?
If you have a repeat episode , I suggest calling 111 or going to A&E. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Please don’t sit there with chest pain hoping that it will disappear, especially if your meds are not helping at the time. It is not worth the risk.
Take care.
Tos
Think I've had all the tests possible but I do have to have a second scan then the vein dye so welk see thank you though but no wasn't diagnosed with rhythm disorder
Looking at your bio I get the impression you didn't use to have a very healthy lifestyle and perhaps smoked, were overweight and didn't take much exercise.
Are you currently eating healthily, sleeping well, getting exercise and am the correct weight as all those things are likely to impact on our health to one degree or another especially when combined with medicines.
I agree to an extent with your post, but I really thought we were trying to move away from the stigma of weight issues being the cause for everything!! I find it so very annoying, frustrating and sad that people are so quick to judge and blame things on weight. Yes, taking care of yourself, eating a healthy diet and maintaining a healthy weight is a good thing, but there are many reasons why people are unable to do this. It's not always down to laziness or a lack of self control. I know you probably didn't mean this post to be so negative, but I found it to be quite personal and demeaning, especially towards someone who you dont know and who may really be struggling. Quite a triggering post.
Like it or not our weight has a huge impact on many of us. Those concerns are exacerbated by age and general health, with existing heart conditions likely to cause problems if we are overweight. Nobody said anything about being lazy or a lack of self control but getting overweight is something many of us just drift into.
I saw an interesting item in one of the daily newspapers about excess fat , the amount of blood vessels needed to support it and the effect on the heart and decided to check it out. It was Broadly correct and two articles –and a clarification- provided more detail.
Unlikely to have much impact if you have a small body and only mildly overweight, the effect ramps up the more overweight you are and has a serious impact if you are obese.
Fact: Every pound of fat gained causes your body to make 5 new miles of blood vessels.
Knowing this, it’s easy to see why being overweight and heart disease often go together. Most of the new blood vessels are tiny capillaries, but also include small veins and arteries. This means if you are “only” 10 pounds overweight your heart has to pump blood through an extra 70 miles of blood vessels. The good news is that this also works in reverse. If you lose a pound of fat, your body will break down and reabsorb the no longer needed blood vessels. This is encouraging to dieters, as one pound does not seem like a lot to lose, but even that little bit of difference will result in a large benefit for your heart!

Fat is not an inert substance. It is a very active substance that puts out a lot of chemicals that damage our arteries," says Dr. Kopecky. "Fat damages our body tissues. It actually makes our bodies less sensitive to insulin so we're more prone to being a diabetic."
And extra fat makes your circulatory system work overtime.
"Every pound of weight we put on is 5 miles of blood vessels. If your heart beats 100,000 times a day, that's 500,000 miles a day for one pound of fat," says Dr. Kopecky. "So you do the math. If you're 10 pounds overweight, it's a lot and your heart gets tired. The blood pressure goes up. The heart attack rates go up, etc."
You can ease the burden on your heart by losing weight and moving more. Even dropping a few pounds helps. Dr. Kopecky recommends following the Mediterranean diet, which includes fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fish such as salmon or mackerel, and olive oil. "Courtesy: Mayo Clinic News Network."
It may not be fashionable to talk about being overweight but it is a factor that all of us with heart conditions need to be aware of.
Wrong I'm not over weight never have been yeah I did smoke smoke
Sorry, I noted your interests on your bio. I have been overweight all my life but never anywhere near obese. it would be good to lose 10 to 14 pounds but the best I can do is maintain weight. It would certainly help my heart if I could lose a bit.
Palpitations are very unpleasant and often linked to weight and diet but it is very difficult to specifically point the finger at any one or two causes, such as a certain food or drink. I don't think Doctors take palpitations that seriously as they generally say they are not harmful.
Hope you are intending to speak to the GP about your experiences last night as it was obviously concerning.
I am trying to loose weight anyway as I'm only 5ft but tgey can't find a reason y I had a geart attack palpitations are awful especially the strong one like the other night that woke me I've always eaten kinda healthy
I keep a daily health diary, originally with the idea that I might be able to identify what causes my own palpitations but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to them. They come on then go away. It been better since going on bisoprolol.
I suspect humidity/weather plays a large part and we have an awful lot of devices that cause Electro magnetic interference, plus things like cleaning products that have chemicals that might affect us.
GP's don't seem that interested though and would sooner prescribe yet more medication.
Very true I gwt mine gere and there but the other night they were one after tge other but very strong they took my breath away when I eventually fell back to sleep tgey would wake me again and every now and again I fet shooting pain across my chest but they put u on e g they say they haven't picked anything up 🙈🙈🙈
I see you mentioned "painful" palpitations. I have posted about my painful palpitations here but seems I was the only one having them.Mine is a sharp pain in the region of my right atrial and occurs with each palpitations. Been having them for 2 years.
Oh yeah it's like a big thud your palpitations then achy pains after
