Hi,
I recently paid a visit to the doctor about left chest pains, she pressed really hard middle chest, I doubled up. She did say it was muscular, but isn't the heart a muscle. Do you think this wise with someone who has a heart problem? Thanks liz

I don't think it's unusual to do that. After having a massive heart attack & cardiac arrest resulting in broken sternum and ribs, the cardiologists pressed hard on my husbands chest and was able to determine that his heart had a virus around it which, apparently, is quite common after a heart attack.
Whilst the cardiologist was pressing on his chest 2 friends arrived to visit, when they saw what the cardiologist was doing they run out as they thought he was being resuscitated again!!
Wow I hope he's feeling better now, that must have hurt him. What a shock for your friends. 🙄
Yeah, it did give them a scare but it was many years ago. I hope your Dr can help you with your pain.
How did the cardiologist know it was a virus round the heart just by pressing on his chest?
I don't know, possibly experience? because a virus is quite common after a heart attack? My husband had complained of pain in his chest area which we thought was probably from the broken sternum/ribs and they were only giving him paracetamol which was not helping, it was a very long time ago though.
