fibroelastoma near aortic valve discovered on checkup when symptomless

Hi everyone,

I had an echocardiogram to assess damage to heart for other drugs for a blood condition. It showed a fibroelastoma 7mm x7mm next to the aortic valve, and I have been told I need open heart surgery to remove it and likely replacement of the valve. I have numerous complicating issues related to bleeding and healing, and am looking to get a second opinion on a less invasive approach.

How do I go about this in England?

Has anyone else had surgery for a fibroelastoma and how did it work?

Did anyone suffer kidney problems following surgery? What happened and how can these be minimised?

I am seeking to truly understand the risks of surgery for me and minimise their life altering consequences.

Any advice and tips?

Many thanks for all your help.

G

Hi there, is it private or nhs? If it’s private, the Keyhole Heart clinic in London are fabulous and do minimally invasive/ keyhole operations, might be worth giving them a call. Good luck.

Hi, I don’t know where aboutsin the uk you are but if I were in your position I would ask for a referral to The Royal Brompton Hospital in London. They are one of the top cardiology hospitals in the UK and know from family experience that they are amazing. You could either ask your current cardiologist to refer you for a second opinion or ask your GP to do so. I hope you get to see someone soon.

Thank you, any experience is valued as my family and friends have none in this area.
