turmeric/golden milk

Arfnoon wise ones! I have a couple of slightly elevated protein levels in my liver -ALT/AST/GGT… I’ve been reading that turmeric might do more harm than good for anyone with liver problems. I used to take supplements for inflammation but I stopped because I’d read the ‘above’. Anyone have any advice please?🙏🏼

searching doctor Google and finding things you don’t like is indeed a hazard. And asking for medical advice from this forum isn’t a good idea as we can’t give it.

The pharmacist at your doctors surgery might have some ideas?

But whoever asked for this blood test should be the one following it up.

Hello doris500,

Always discuss 'supplements' of any kind with your health care provider first, be that a GP, practice nurse, or pharmacist. There can be side-effects with current medication; they may be a passing fad without scientific proof of efficacy; they may create other health problems. That said, I'm sure that folk on here will be happy to share their experiences of taking supplements in relation to their own health. Turmeric has a long history:

I would agree with HappyRosie, ask your doctor and/or the clinical pharmacist. I have to say it isn't always helpful. My experience has been that my cardiologist, when I asked him about taking magnesium, said it wasn't a bad idea but he couldn't advise on dosage, and a GP told me to take Vitamin D supplements but that coincided with the start of my heart journey. I still can't take Vit D without adverse effects.Perhaps you could ask whoever ordered your test what any treatment might be, and at what point, and what you can do to help yourself. Good luck.

Hello Doris, I hope you don't mind my asking, but why avoid statins? My honest (but non professional) opinion is that statins of all the drugs are the most efficacious. People do mention side effects, some get them, other don't, but from what I have read, I would recommend them over and above any supplement.

When I researched turmeric, the conclusion I came to was that it is good, but we can't get it in a pure enough state and in quantities that will be of any benefit. I'm sure Dr Michael Mosley did a whole programme on it on BBC sounds search Michael Mosley or turmeric.

Thanks for the msg and no I don’t mind you asking. I’ve not been offered them yet as I think my stats don’t call for them yet. I have inflammation in my hands and was thinking turmeric for that reason. But then read about a connection to the liver. My livers markers were inflated due to another drug I was temporarily taking and my Doc put it down to this drug. But they are reducing now. So all good!
