I have been on Bisoprolol for a short while in the past and felt like my heart was thumping/pounding on it. Very intense heart beats.

Perhaps speak to your pharmacist in the morning, if no luck, make an appointment with your GP.

I’m sure there are others on all, or a combination of those meds you mention so I hope they can help.

All the best.

Thank you, it's just that I suffered nearly 3 yrs with palpitations every day and now I'm on medication I panic every time I have even the smallest of flutters..I guess I just hoped they'd go away now I'm on the tablets.I called 111 for advice the other night as I panicked and the out of hours doctor told me if I had another palpitation I was to call 999 immediately??

Hi, I'm on all that same medication plus clopidogrel, lansaprazole and a few more. May I ask what dosage you are on? I was on bisoprolol 2.5mg and due to palpitations and pulsating sensations was halved to 1.25mg by my gp. I still get them but to much lesser degree, however I still have pulsating torso when first lie down especially in my back and arms. Try to see your gp and if unsure ring 111 again and follow their instruction if possible even if its to ring 999, put your mind at ease and best to play it safe

Thank you for your advice, I'm currently taking 1.25mg Bisoprolol, 40mg Atorvastatin and 75mg aspirin, like I say I don't have many and lasts about 2 seconds but comparing how bad my palpitations were before I started taking the tablets it's nothing.I do suffer with some anxand since that doc told me to call 999 if I have 1 palpitation I've been even more scared..I've had a ct scan 2 weeks ago and waiting for results..all I've been told is ventricular eptopics, my cardiologist told me not to worry?

I’m not clear why you have been told to call 999 if you get even one palpitation - that is not usual, as palpitations in themselves are common and do not necessarily mean anything is amiss. There must be sone more specific reason for this advice. Bisoprolol, aspirin and statins do I not generally cause palpitations to the best of my knowledge.

Hi and thanks for your reply, I too am as baffled! It was a locum doctor who I'd never spoke to before and when he told me to call 999 I said with all due respect why? I spent 3 yrs having major palpitations that would last throughout the day and nobody told me to call emergency services then!He said its because the doctors need to see which part of the heart is basically playing up! I told him I'm awaiting results from ct scan..I don't think he was listening to be honest.

Baffling! You could speak to your GP or the people who did the CT scan who might be able to clarify.

I will try again tomorrow for an advice call from my gp, I've tried calling the hospital today but no answer at xray department.

I see how that does seem extreme too fir 1 palpitation. Not the best thing to say to someone who panics as I too myself do too. you seem to kind of know which panic to act on and which to try and calm yourself down for, eg something new or extra. Things seem to have improved a bit you say with the medication also compared to before you started taking them. As Tos92 kindly suggested, my advice also to try to see your gp and talk your concerns over with them as soon as you can. Hopefully over time symptoms will improve, 🤞

I has my statin changed to Rosavastatin… I’d speak to your local pharmacist as they no about drugs and their affects better than Doctors, also make a cardiologist appointment

I am on Bisoprolol 1.25 for tachycardia and Atorvastatin 40mg. I have had palpitations and ectopic beats for years and no test has given any cause. I know that they get worse if I am anxious, but have been reassured that they are harmless!!

The Bisoprolol has calmed my tachycardia and any ectopic beats that I get are far more muted.

Hopefully your pharmacist or GP will be able to give you some advice or reassurance.

Thank you so much for your reply, I keep mentioning to docs that I'm 52 and going through menopause and I've heard palpitations are very common during this time..I mean I'd like to know if these episodes are down to my hormones and that I shouldn't worry about it, I only had my 1st appointment with a cardiologist on the 14th Sept last year so my heads in a spin over it all, doesn't help my anxiety which we all know can bring on these wrethed palpitations!

I had palpitations before the menopause, but there are so many issues that crop up for us at this time! Discussing this with a friend today as we both say we are so tired - sadly there does not seem to be enough info out there regarding how the menopause changes life. Take care x

Exactly that! I hear so many conflicting stories about menopausal symptoms and I can't take it all in..I do start to feel tired everyday about tea time and often have to go and have a nap to which I wake up feeling groggy...can't seem to win lol, thank you again and all the best 😊

Hello

I am now on 10mg Bisoprolol up from 7.5mg The reason for going up to 10mg was a rush of Ectopic Beats, Bigeminy and Trigeminy an Ectopic every second and third beat. So it's kind of horses for courses, I think the Bisoprolol works according to the reason why you are on it. 7.5mg couldn't control mine lol. ( Now waiting for a Holter to see whats going on ! )

I have had a Heart Attack, Bypass surgery, 2 lots of stents and Heart Failure. + around 25% of my heart muscle dosen't work. One thing I have found is it is very difficult to get an accurate Heart Rate when experiencing palpatations and Ectopic beats. The other thing I think with Bisoprolol is it can play havoc with your Blood Pressure but my Heart Nurse says not to worry if your not feeling unwell. So I work on that basis how do I feel rather than the readings I get.

ps my BP can range from 86/41 hr 62 and 130/65 hr 58 A low Heart Rate for me would be around 40.

A lot of info but just trying to show an awful lot depends on your Hearts condition and also your Mental condition. I am Lucky I take my Heart Nurses advice and don't worry, BUT if I didn't think things were right I would call an expert for Advice.

Regards

Thank you for your advice and reply, I wish I could just turn off the anxiety! I am trying each day to spare a few moments relaxing and this is hard as my head is programmed for fight or flight most of the time lol..I feel like I've been thrown into a pit of worry and not really had a chance to ask questions, my 1st cardiologist appointment was so short and whilst I expected him to say there's nothing wrong with your heart it's all hormonal he proceeded to explain that I have these strange beats due to furring of the heart tubes? Then it was a case of him giving me a prescription and asking me to book bloods! So I'm out of my depth here. You appear to be a strong willed person, I wish I was.

Bisoprolol only affects the heart rate NOT rythym. You need to see an Electrophysiologist, a cardiologist with additional training in arrhythmia. There are specific medications to treat arrhythmia, and also a proceedure called ablation which xam help.

Sikovvitt profile image
Sikovvitt in reply to wilsond

Thank you for your reply, my brother had a few years of heart issues and had the ablation done and now he's fine, I think I need to wait for the ct scan results..I have no idea how long these results will take, it's been over 2 weeks now and doctors secretary says it can take 8 to 12 weeks!

Hello, I'm currently taking 1.25 mg of Bisoprolol twice daily. Despite this, I still experience occasional palpitations, occurring a few times a day. A couple of months ago, I underwent a treadmill stress test, requiring a temporary cessation of Bisoprolol before restarting post-test. The adjustment period was challenging, with intense palpitations persisting for a few weeks before gradually returning to normal. While unsettling, I've been assured that these palpitations are benign ectopic beats and pose no cause for concern.

Thank you so much for your help, that's reassured me greatly! I would like my results from ct scan just so I know a little more as stents were mentioned.

Hi My cocktail is similar 2.5mg Biso 80mg Lipitor 75mg Aspirin..but ectopics never stop, get them daily and pretty much live with them. They dont bother me at night and seem to stop when I go to bed and get horizontal! They are weird! But generally harmless. Going to try a breathing course in the next few days in another effort to stop them. Stay calm.

I'm 9 weeks post op from aortic valve replacement by open heart surgery after a history of 40 yrs of palpitations treated by propanolol, I was only diagnosed last summer with severe aortic stenosis following an echocardiogram, all previous Ecgs etc never picked it up my symptoms were always put down to diabetes and anxiety till hospital emergency admission led to the echo and diagnosis, surgery within 3 months, slowly recovering and grateful for the NHS

I certainly did. My palpitations were very much affected by how much coffee I was drinking (which is a common side effect of caffeine). I've now drastically reduced my caffeine intake which was excessive and don't get any palpitations (and now come off bisoprolol completely).

Sikovvitt profile image
Sikovvitt in reply to Saladay

Thank you for your reply, I don't drink coffee but I have 2 cups of tea a day, I do however use my vape 😬 I am trying to cut it down, I did give up for a couple of years and don't even know why I started it back up?

Saladay profile image
Saladay in reply to Sikovvitt

Nicotine is implicated: heartteam.com/blog/most-com.... It doesn't mention caffeine but I'm pretty sure that's a recognised cause. I doubt the two teas would cause a lot of problems but you could try decaf tea. The nicotine would probably be a more important element.

Sikovvitt profile image
Sikovvitt in reply to Saladay

Thank you, I did mention to the cardiologist about the vaping and he didn't say anything to that! I know myself I need to stop and I will, although it's a small dose of nicotine it's still nicotine.

Reading this answers a few questions for me, and makes me feel better. I am on similar meds and get odd extra beat, fluttering etc. Trouble is it is so intermittent, they even did a 24 hr monitor and nothing showed. I am also on Sertraline, and around 1-2 hours after taking that I get a big slump in energy.

I've had palpitations for years and years. It took over a year of tests before they could actually catch an event and see which part of the heart they came from and they assured me they were perfectly harmless. It took another year before I stopped w orrying about them and the less I worried, the fewer I had until they went away almost completely. I got them even when I took bisopralol after a heart attack. I do still get occasional ectopic beats but they are now very rare and don't concern me at all. I know from experience that anxiety increases the number I get.

Sikovvitt profile image
Sikovvitt in reply to Qualipop

Thank you for your reply, I can't lie and say I don't stress so much because I'm a big flapper and stress seems to be part of my daily routine! I am having some counselling over the phone once a week so I'm hoping this might work.

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop in reply to Sikovvitt

It helped me after my heart attack. I hope it does the same for you.

I didn't get counselling for the palpitations because once I knew they were harmless I accepted it although it did take around a year to stop worrying when they happened.

Sikovvitt profile image
Sikovvitt in reply to Qualipop

Thank you, I had 3 yrs of intense palpitations prior to seeing the cardiologist and I learnt to deal with it and they didn't stress me out but its more concerning since I've found out about my heart issue..I'm going to force myself to chill more when it happens from now on....she says 🙄 lol.

Hi, I'm 8 weeks post stent for 99% LAD blockage. I'm on 5mg Bisoprolol and just this past week, have been getting palpitations again. I've had them for years but thought they'd settled down. One of the cardiac nurses told me not to worry if I feel OK, which I do, but they still make me worry! I'm going to monitor it for a bit and see how I go. Take care fellow heart warriors!

Thank you for your reply..just had a horrible dizzy spell as I went to reply 😬 ok so I need to stay calm..and breathe! They have said I may need stents fitted so I'm apprehensive about this, never had an operation in my life and hoped I'd never have to..I guess its all about being in the unknown, hope you feel better and things settle quickly for you.

Hi, Sikovvitt,

I believe that I take basically similar drugs. I do not have Bisoprolol—but I take 75 mg. Metropolol daily. I also take 40 mg. Atorvastatin, and a low-dose aspirin. I have been taking these meds for almost two years now.

Recently, say 2-4 weeks, I have been having more palpitations than I usually do. I’m not sure whether that’s a sign of getting worse in some way—or due to cold temperatures—or lack of enough sleep, etc. I know that the palpitations are worrisome, scary, and unexpected.

Please let us know if you discover anything related to the meds, or other possible causes.

Best wishes! ❤️

Hi Smitty1956 and thank you for your reply, I have only been on my meds since Sept last year but to be honest these palpitations have only started coming back in the last 2 weeks for me..just when you think yaayyy lol, little suckered creep back up to bite me on the bum 😬actually lack of sleep is one thing I am certain of why I've had them, that or being stressed out! I'll repost as soon as I hear back about my ct scan, all the best to you too and thank you again.

Hi,

I've been on this assortment of drugs now for nearly 3 months and it's only the last two weeks it feels like I get spaced out at certain times of the day, this gets me anxious which leads to me feeling my heart a lot more but then when I use my o2/pulse device ( fingure) my 02 levels are fine and my pulse rate is fine.

It's worrying, it's getting bothersome now but I'm making my self believe it's one thing cascading and causing another. ie maybe my mind is causing overplaying the weird things my medication is now doing.

I'm going to speak to my GP on Friday to get things checked out.

My kids dad died last year of heart failure he was 53, then I found out my biological father had died 2 yrs ago from a heart attack so I feel so bad for my kids..sorry I went off topic a bit (I do this frequently 🙄) hope your symptoms settle down for you.
